St. Joan of Arc School Uganda Fr. Simon Peter 2011

FR. SIMON PETER IS BACK!

ST. JOAN OF ARC PRIMARY SCHOOL, MAWUUKI, UGANDA

The Ministry of Fr. Simon Peter

Time flies so fast! It seems the good Fr. Simon Peter just arrived yesterday bringing with him photos to show the vast improvement done with the school. Now after two month stay in Chicago, he's gone leaving for home last Monday, September 26th.

Notes From Fr. Simon Peter:

About the school... It's one thing to construct a school but it takes incredible commitment and sacrifice to keep it going. As of now, the total enrolment is 487 pupils with at least 114 in the kindergarten. The biggest challenge to our survival in 2012 will continue to be payment of salary for teachers and staff, feeding the pupils and payment of bills incurred in running the school. On the capital campaign, we hope to relieve the congestion among the teachers by building a much needed teacher's quarters. For the sake of sanitation and food security, we need to build a kitchen. We also hope to finish fencing the remaining part of the school to provide a secure environment and to protect the integrity of life and property! We hope to finish work on the kindergarten and finish the play area to create room because we are overcrowded. Electricity continues to be a challenge! We hope to buy a generator or install solar power! We are definitely going to continue working on agriculture starting with a small nursery for trees such as coffee, and fruit trees like mangoes, oranges etc which will eventually be given to families. In due course we shall introduce cows, pigs, rabbits, goats and poultry not only to teach children and the parents how to rear these animals but also add nutrition to their diets.

Fare thee well with many thanks!

(Excerpt):The wisdom in the book of Ecclesiastes teaches that "There is an appointed time for everything and a time for every affair under the heavens..." (Eccl. 3:1ff). If the writer had lived under my circumstance I think he would have added that there is a time to come, a time to give thanks and a time to go away! I am indeed very grateful to Fr. Kehoe (SJA Pastor) for giving me the chance to be part of our community of faith. I thank the Rectory staff for their hospitality and kindness. I am grateful to the new Principal, the staff, the parents and pupils for the continued support to Arc of Hope. To all the parishioners, thank you for everything; the donations, the dinners:-the steaks, conversations and the jokes. Thank you especially for sharing with me inspiring books, Kathryn Stockett's The Help, Laura Hillenbrand's Unbroken, Nicholas Kristoff and Sherly WuDunn's Half the Sky, Erik Larson's In the Garden of the Beasts, Immaculee Illibagiza's Led by Faith. Many thanks again to the organizers and participants in the Golf Outing!
