Joven Esteva, 39, a Filipino driver in Saudi Arabia was beheaded Monday, March 9, 2015 at 9:00 A.M. in Riyadh for stabbing his Arab boss and injuring the son in 2007. Joven, with the help of Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) whose defense was "he was not in his right mind at the time" begged for forgiveness from the victim's family but was rejected. Another Filipino is awaiting execution. The new King of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has executed more, 42 ? this year, than the former King Abdullah.
New King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud
One of the national products of the Philippines is the OFWs. The money remittance they send to their families and relatives in the home country is what pumps up the economy. Before leaving for employment in other countries as teachers, engineers, nurses and healthcare workers they are given tips on the ways, cultures and traditions in the country where they are going to work. For instance, Saudi Arabia is 100% Muslims while the Philippines is 99% Christians. Totally different laws. It's very risky to work in Arab countries where abuses and rapes of Filipino workers by abusive bosses that treat them like dogs are well documented but not pursued in court.

ReplyDeleteA FILIPINO OFW CARLITO LUNA WAS EXECUTED IN SAUDI ARABIA ON DECEMBER 12, 2014 FOR SHOOTING HIS ARAB BOSS NASSER AND RUNNING OVER HIM WITH A CAR IN 2010. THIS HAPPENED JUST THREE MONTHS AFTER HIS ARRIVAL AND STARTED BEING EMPLOYED AS DOMESTIC HELPER. NASSER WAS SO ABUSIVE, THE FIRST TIME MAKING FUN OF SWEET CARLITO AND HIM RUNNING AWAY FROM FEAR WHILE NASSER'S FRIENDS WERE LAUGHING WITH JOY. CARLITO IGNORED THE FIRST TIME BUT NOT THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED. THE RECRUITING AGENCIES SHOULD SCREEN ARAB EMPLOYERS AND THE PHILIPPINE GOVERNMENT SHOULD OVERSEE THEIR SAFETY AND WELL-BEING AND MAKE CONTACT WITH OFWs ONCE THEY ARRIVE IN ARAB COUNTRIES AND OTHER COUNTRIES OF THEIR DESTINATION. LET ME TELL YOU THIS: FILIPINOS RESPECT HUMAN RIGHTS AND BECAUSE OF THEIR GOOD AND CHRISTIAN UPBRINGINGS ARE NOT USED TO ABUSES BY THEIR FELLOW HUMAN BEINGS. I CAN ONLY SURMISE THAT THESE BEHEADED FILIPINOS HAD REACHED THEIR LIMITS OF THEIR SUFFERINGS AND MISERIES, WHATEVER THAT MEANS.
ReplyDeleteWHAT TO DO IN ABUSIVE SITUATION WHILE BEING EMPLOYED OVERSEAS? HOW TO GET OUT OF A TWO-YEAR CONTRACT? WHO TO TELL AND REPORT YOUR DILEMMA? IS IT NECESSARY FOR YOUR FOREIGN EMPLOYER TO KEEP YOUR PASSPORT? I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS. WHY NOT GO TO WORK IN COUNTRIES WHERE THERE'S AN UN-BIAS COURT OF LAW AND YOUR CASE NOT BEING PREJUDICED BY THE JUDGE? IS IT WORTH WORKING WITH AN ABUSIVE AND CRUEL EMPLOYER JUST TO HAVE LITTLE MONEY TO FEED YOUR FAMILY? THERE ARE NO EASY ANSWERS. I WAS LOOKING AT THE PHOTOS OF THE BEHEADED FILIPINOS, THEY WERE SO HAPPY ONCE AND LOST IT ALL ONCE THEY ARRIVED IN SAUDI ARABIA. I MUST CONFESS, AS AN IMMIGRANT, I HAD A DIFFERENT DESTINATION -- THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. GOD BLESS, AMERICA! ;))
ReplyDeleteCORRECTION: SHOULD BE CARLITO LANA.
ReplyDeleteTHE PHILIPPINE GOVERNMENT SHOULD RE-EVALUATE SENDING FILIPINO WORKERS TO SAUDI ARABIA AND OTHER ARAB COUNTRIES. I, SELF, WOULD BE VERY, VERY AFRAID TO WORK IN A SOCIETY THAT IS NOT FREE, UNDEMOCRATIC AND GOVERN BY LAWS SO TOTALLY DIFFERENT FROM ONE'S NATIONALITY.
