Maze: The Goddess of Convenience

Maze: The Goddess of Convenience

It is so easy to get lost inside the Lib's Labyrinth. If you find yourself in a physical situation of being confused in the various networks of pathways, and maybe even temporarily blind, don't be. In the walled and hedged pathways, there is statue of self, The Goddess of Convenience. Like in those slot machines of Zeus, you get a big reward of being guided to another starting point after encountering a dead-end alley. Only the G o C can make it so. Not even Zeus and the Minotaur. They are so dead!

HISTORY, IT'S COMPLICATED.
Crete: 3,000 - 1100 B.C

There live the mean Minotaur - Half man and half white bull in body - the son of Pasiphae by a sacred bull. Pasiphae was the wife of King Minos of Crete. Minos was the son of Zeus and Europa. Zeus was the principal god in the Olympic pantheon and the father of gods and mortal heroes. Europa was a Phoenician princess abducted to Crete by Zeus, who had taken the form of a white bull. Even in those times, Crete was so bullish and full of bullcrap. The Minotaur came to his demise when he was killed by Theseus. Theseus was the hero and King of Athens and conquered the Amazons in the isle of Lesbo and married Phaedra, their queen. Poor Theseus, his queen fell in love with her stepson, Hippolytus. Bad for her, Hippolytus spurned the sexual advances of his stepmother, Phaedra, and was killed by Poseidon. Such was the fickle finger of fate inherent in the mind and soul of the gods and goddesses of the time. Poseidon is the God of the waters, earthquakes, and horses.

The Goddess of Convenience has one weakness. But no one knows, except? Top secret! No wiki-wiki.

Maze: SJA Filipino Community Picnic 2010

I love going to Filipino picnics because they have all my favorite foods. You don't have to select what you like. I don't like going to American picnics, not that I've been invited before by my American friends, because they only have hotdogs and buns. Hot dogs are the least of my favorites. I love frankfurters though and I don't know why my corner store stopped selling my favorite brand - Red Hot Chicago "Jumbo Beef Franks." I was a little bit upset. I have to check the internet who's got this brand. It says on the package it's A Family Tradition Since 1893.

The Village of Skokie has many beautiful parks even though most of the commisioners are not salaried and have a non-paying job. The residents of the community enjoy a high quality of life through leisure time pursuits, well-maintained open spaces, and first-rate facilities. The Skokie Park District does a very impressive job for the whole community through true teamwork, community partnerships, sound fiscal management, and creativity in every area of its operation. The Village of Skokie always get an A-rating. As a resident taxpayer of two towns, Evanston and Skokie, I'm well satisfied where my hard-earned money is going. I am the envy of my relatives and friends from other cities, including Chicago, because I live in the best, uncorrupted town in the State of Illinois - Skokie! May the city fathers of Skokie always be guided not with greed but sincerity in helping the community.

With Cathy, SJA Coordinator of Community Event

With Juliet, one of the hardworking members of the SJA Filipino Community Committee. M-m-m-m, I get hungry everytime I see the delicious foods - pancit, Shanghai eggrolls, fried chicken and native Filipino desserts.

With Oscar, the friendliest guy in the SJA Committee. They're glad to see me win one of the Simbang Gabi raffles.

With Darla, always welcoming to new members to be in the community fold.

SamaSama Project in "Sarsuela ni Lola" (Grandma's Musical)

SamaSama Project ( united or together) is an ensemble of Filipino and Filipino American artists. True to its name, the Band's music is a fusion of traditional Filipino music and music styles from all over the world. It is one of Chicago's leading Filipino Folk Fusion Band. It has made its mark performing at the Old Town School of Folk Music. The band has also performed in Wheaton College, the Museum of Science and Industry, Navy Pier and the Skokie Theatre.

Sarsuela ni Lola is the band's first musical concert that debut at the Skokie Theatre on November 19, 2010. A shortened version of this musical concert is the featured presentation in SJA Simbang Gabi program.

Sarsuela ni Lola is a hilarious and heartwarming story weaved into music and dance about Carlo, a Filipino-American who comes home to the Philippines for the first time since he left as a young teen. He finds himself coming to terms with the past he left behind guided by his mischievous but thoughtful and loving Lola (Grandma). Original Filipino Music and traditional Filipino folk songs and dances as well as contemporary dances are featured."
