Dr. Charles Krauthammer, MD.

THE BOOK: THINGS THAT MATTER BY CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER.  Many years ago I'd do a MSN search (no Google yet) on Charles Krauthammer because when I particularly liked what person is talking and thinking I get curious but not much came up.  It's totally different now.  I watched the FOX interview by Bret Baier and learned about him and what happened a long time ago.  What struck me most was how awesome handsome he was as a young man.

He looked like an actor

Thanks for forwarding, Evelyn.  I've been a Krauthammer observer for many, many years and I never fail to watch him in "Inside Washington."  Much as I dislike so much the other 3 panel members (Nina Totenberg - the woman with fabulous facial skin, and I forgot the names of the other 2 - Evans? and I just could not remember the other guy's name because he's so annoying), Dr. Krauthammer is the only reason I watch IW.   I agree with everything he says.  In my next blog, I'm going to write why Americans keep believing Socialist Democrat Obama.  He just kicked off his political campaign in Chicago and raised $3 million. He keeps attacking Wall Street tycoons, Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. the whole caboodle of big corporations such as GE and Warren Buffet, and the capitalist  bourgeoisie for not paying income taxes in all of his election speeches.  So, who gives campaign contributions to him?  Those suckers I've just mentioned! Who is he (Obama) fooling?  Obama does not want to tax exempt people earning $250,000 or more but these are the small businesses that need all the breaks.  So much crap.  Indeed, he can fool all the people all of the time...but not this informed private citizen and voter!

                             Dr.   Charles Krauthammer , MD

Dr. Krauthammer is frequently on the Fox News Channel. He is an M.D., a lawyer and is paralyzed from the neck down. A friend went to hear Charles Krauthammer . He listened with 25 others in a closed room. What he says here, is NOT 2nd-hand but 1st. The ramifications are staggering for us, our children and their children.

Last Monday was a profound evening, Dr. Charles Krauthammer spoke to the Center for the American Experiment.. He is a brilliant intellectual, seasoned & articulate. He is forthright and careful in his analysis, and never resorts to emotions or personal insults. He is NOT a fear monger nor an extremist in his comments and views . He is a fiscal conservative, and has received a Pulitzer Prize for writing. He is a frequent contributor to Fox News and writes weekly for the Washington Post.

The entire room was held spellbound during his talk. I have summarized his comments, as we are living in uncharted waters economically and internationally.

Even 2 Dems at my table agreed with everything he said!  If you feel like forwarding this to those who are open minded and have not drunk the Kool-Aid, feel free....

Summary of his comments:

1. Mr. Obama is a very intellectual, charming individual. He is not to be underestimated. He is a cool customer who doesn't show his emotions. It's very hard to know what's behind the mask. The taking down of the Clinton dynasty was an amazing accomplishment. The Clintons still do not understand what hit them. Obama was in the perfect place at the perfect time.

2. Obama has political skills comparable to Reagan and Clinton . He has a way of making you think he's on your side, agreeing with your position, while doing the opposite. Pay no attention to what he SAYS; rather, watch what he DOES!

3. Obama has a ruthless quest for power. He did not come to Washington to make something out of himself, but rather to change everything, including dismantling capitalism. He can't be straightforward on his ambitions, as the public would not go along. He has a heavy hand, and wants to level the playing field with income redistribution and punishment to the achievers of society. He would like to model the USA to Great Britain or Canada .

4. His three main goals are to control ENERGY, PUBLIC EDUCATION, and NATIONAL HEALTHCARE by the Federal government. He doesn't care about the auto or financial services industries, but got them as an early bonus. The cap and trade will add costs to everything and stifle growth. Paying for FREE college education is his goal. Most scary is his healthcare program, because if you make it FREE and add 46,000,000 people to a Medicare-type single-payer system, the costs will go through the roof. The only way to control costs is with massive RATIONING of services, like in Canada . God forbid!

5. He has surrounded himself with mostly far-left academic types. No one around him has ever even run a candy store. But they are going to try and run the auto, financial, banking and other industries. This obviously can't work in the long run. Obama is not a socialist; rather he's a far-left secular progressive bent on nothing short of revolution. He ran as a moderate, but will govern from the hard left. Again, watch what he DOES, not what he says.

6. Obama doesn't really see himself as President of the United States , but more as a ruler over the world.. He sees himself above it all, trying to orchestrate & coordinate various countries and their agendas. He sees moral equivalency in all cultures. His apology tour in Germany and England was a prime example of how he sees America , as an imperialist nation that has been arrogant, rather than a great noble nation that has at times made errors. This is the first President ever who has chastised our allies and appeased our enemies!

7. He is now handing out goodies. He hopes that the bill (and pain) will not come due until after he is reelected in 2012. He would like to blame all problems on Bush from the past, and hopefully his successor in the future. He has a huge ego, and Dr. Krauthammer believes he is a narcissist.

8.. Republicans are in the wilderness for a while, but will emerge strong. Republicans are pining for another Reagan , but there will never be another like him. Krauthammer believes Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty & Bobby Jindahl (except for his terrible speech in February) are the future of the party. Newt Gingrich is brilliant, but has baggage. Sarah Palin is sincere and intelligent, but needs to really be seriously boning up on facts and info if she is to be a serious candidate in the future... We need to return to the party of lower taxes, smaller government, personal responsibility, strong national defense, and state's rights.

9. The current level of spending is irresponsible and outrageous. We are spending trillions that we don't have.. This could lead to hyperinflation, depression or worse. No country has ever spent themselves into prosperity. The Media is giving Obama, Reid and Pelosi a Pass because they love their agenda. But eventually the bill will come due and people will realize the huge bailouts didn't work, nor will the stimulus package. These were trillion-dollar payoffs to Obama's allies, unions and the Congress to placate the left, so he can get support for #4 above.

10. The election was over in mid-September when Lehman brothers failed, fear and panic swept in, we had an unpopular President, and the war was grinding on indefinitely without a clear outcome. The people are in pain, and the mantra of change caused people to act emotionally. Any Dem would have won this election; it was surprising it was as close as it was.

11. In 2012, if the unemployment rate is over 10%, Republicans will be swept back into power. If it's under 8%, the Dems continue to roll. If it's between 8-10%, it will be a dogfight. It will all be about the economy. I hope this gets you really thinking about what's happening in Washington and Congress. There is a left-wing revolution going on, according to Krauthammer, and he encourages us to keep the faith and join the loyal resistance. The work will be hard, but we're right on most issues and can reclaim our country, before it's far too late.

Do yourself a long term favor, send this to all who will listen to an intelligent assessment of the big picture. All our futures and children's futures depend on our good understanding of what is really going on in DC, and our action pursuant to that understanding!! It really IS up to each of us to take individual action!! Start with educating your friends and neighbors!!!

Happy Halloween!

Last year, unlike in previous years, a lot of kids did trick or treat in my neighborhood.  I guess kids are back in populating the village.

COMPASSION CAMBODIA MISSION: VALLEY PRAISE FOURSQUARE CHURCH

October 22nd, 2013

Blessings to you and your family!  I have made the exciting decision to go on a mission trip with my local church, Valley Praise Foursquare Church.  We are going on a short term mission trip to Cambodia from February 13-25, 2014.

To those who have never been to Cambodia, it is a poor country where most children, especially in districts such as Banteay Mean Chey Province, live in poverty and are orphans.  Some of the villagers do quarry work, but a majority of the people are poor rice farmers.  Most children are orphaned by war, land mines and the rapid spread of disease.  Medical and dental care is very expensive and unaffordable for the vast majority of the population.

Our team will provide dental services; assist in construction projects, support the medical clinic and engage in the opportunity to share God's Word to the impoverished area of Banteay Mean Chey Province.

I am inviting you to partner with us in this worthy endeavor through your financial support, as well as your prayers.  The total amount I will need for this great opportunity is $1,950, which covers the cost of transportation, lodging, and meals.  If God is leading you to support this ministry financially, you may write a check payable to Valley Praise Foursquare Church (VPFC) - 9659 Balboa Blvd, Northridge, CA 91325  Tel. no. 818-838-3515 and in the Notes portion of the check, please include Hector Herrera Jr - Compassion Cambodia Mission.  All donations are tax-deductible.

2 Corinthians 9:6,10-11 - Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.  Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.  You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

Your support means a lot to me and is greatly appreciated.  I look forward to seeing lives changed and impacted by this mission outreach.  Thank you for partnering with me to reach out to the world!  Your giving will enable others do the going!

With sincere gratitude,

Hector "Junior" Herrera Jr

A Glimpse of Nobel with Franz Ontal of OPCW

FRANZ CESAR ONTAL, HEAD OF INSPECTOR TRAINING,  THE ORGANIZATION FOR THE PROHIBITION OF CHEMICAL WEAPONS: 2013 NOBEL PEACE PRIZE WINNER.  Award ceremony in Oslo, Norway, December 10.

______________________________________________________________

I'm forever catching up with my reading.

Who is Nobel, exactly?

I don't know much --  a glimpse of his statue while touring Oslo; I knew that he invented the dynamite, and of course the prestigious Nobel Prize for outstanding achievement in peace, literature, medicine and sciences, and economics .  What I knew of Alfred B. Nobel (1833-1896) is very minimal, indeed.
So I was fascinated by an article written by Dov Greenberg with the long title of The Man who changed his life after reading his Obituary.

He wrote:

"The creation of the Nobel Prizes came about through a chance event.  When Nobel's brother died, a newspaper ran a long obituary of Alfred Nobel, believing that it was he who had passed away.  Thus, Nobel had an opportunity granted few people: to read his obituary while alive.  What he read horrified him: The newspaper described him as a man who had made it possible to kill more people more quickly than anyone else who had ever lived.

At that moment, Nobel realized two things: that this was how he was going to be remembered, and that this was not how he wanted to be remembered.  Shortly thereater, he established the awards.  Today, because of his doing so, everyone is familiar with the Nobel Prize, while relatively few people know how Nobel made his fortune.  Shakespeare's Mark Antony was wrong: the good we do lives after us.  For most of us, it is the most important thing that we leave behind.

Thinking about how one's obituary is going to read can motivate one to rethink how he is currently spending his life.  No eulogy every says he/she dressed well, lived extravagantly, took fabulous vacations, drove an expensive car, or built the most expensive home.  I never heard anyone praised for being too busy at work to find time for their children.  A call to someone who is lonely, a listening ear to a person in need, long walks with our children, saying thank you to a spouse and to G-d, performing mitzvahs (acts of goodness and holiness)-- are the essence of a life well lived.

The people who are most mourned are not the richest or the most famous, or the most successful.  They are the people who enhanced the lives of others.  They were kind.  They were loving.  They had a sense of their responsibilities.  When they could, they gave to charitable causes.  If they could not give money, they gave time.  They were loyal friends and committed members of communities.  They were people you could count on."

FORGOTTEN SOLDIERS

American soldiers around an American flag

In honor of the valiant men and women who fought during World War II.

This is the story of a group of elite US Army soldiers who fought America's first major ground battle of the Second World War.  They were General MacArthur's best soldiers at the start of the conflict.  They were credited with being widely responsible for the prolonged siege of Bataan, an action that drained so much time and resources from Imperial Japan that it prevented the Japanese invasion of Australia.  Half of them were killed in action and in captivity.  Only a few survive today.  This documentary, run time: 45 mins., will honor these gallant men who gave so much for the cause of freedom.  They were the United States Army's Philippine Scouts, America's FORGOTTEN SOLDIERS.

Dear Friends & Kababayans:
-->
We celebrate June 12 as Philippine Independence Day.  To make our celebration more meaningful, let us honor the Filipino and American Veterans of World War II, for without them, we would not have any reason to celebrate.

To let them know that they are not forgotten,  we are showing a documentary film entitled "Forgotten Soldiers" at the Petty Auditorium of the Skokie Public Library at 7:00pm on June 11, 2012, Monday.  It is narrated by Lou Diamond Phillips, a talented actor who was born in Subic Bay, Philippines to a Filipina mother and a naval officer father. Please see attached flyer for more details.

Please meet a few of the living veterans in our area at a simple reception to be held at the Radmacher Room from 6:00pm to 6:45pm.  I also invited some state, county, and local officials.  Voluntary monetary or in-kind-donations are welcome to cover food & drinks for the reception. NaFFAA Illinois will cover pancit & bottled water. We also need volunteers to provide transportation for the attending veterans.  Their assembly point is the Levy Seniors Center at 2019 W. Lawrence in Chicago.

You can contact me through this email for any questions or concerns and to confirm your attendance.

Thanks.

Filipino American History Month - Manila Queen of the Pacific

MANILA: QUEEN OF THE PACIFIC.  A 1938 Film by The Screen Traveler.  This is before we were born.  Those who were born in the 1930s, our parents and grandparents, it's something different to view because while World War I was raging in Europe, the Filipino people were living the easy and simple life.  Note that the ubiquitous jeepneys were not to be seen on the roads yet - a modified jeep left behind in World War II by the Americans after the liberation of the Philippines.

Terve, Lydia Goddess of Dance & Poetry!

Thanks for calling me from Helsinki and informing me about your Manila High School alumni reunion in the Philippines in February 2012.  The way I understand, there's no grand reunion but small batchmate party since it takes money and time to hold an event like that in big venues/restaurants, especially when you're living abroad.  However, you are inviting everyone to join you in your mini-reunion party in Paco, Manila, (what date?),  visiting the school on February 19, 2012 and tour of Palawan after that.

Since you're GoD, I'm forwarding the videos of Filipino folk dancers of Skokie who performed at the Filipino American History Month event.  I love the tinikling.  They were all American born and they are great!  Now that you're back in Helsinki, are you back to teaching folk dancing?

Time out.

Dear Mang Anong~PINOY Publisher,

I enjoy reading your PINOY, The Filipino American Newsmagazine.  It's really and truly a wealth of useful information - health, economics, politics, and many things that are happening about our kababayans in the Philippines, here in the US and OFWs all around the world.  What touched me most in your latest October 2011 issue is what I read in the OBITUARY - Roll of remembrance: Bells toll for 20 Filipinos.  Why so?  On September 11, we just celebrated the 10th Anniversary of remembering what happened on that tragic day and the 3,000 people that died in the attack, some Filipinos among them.  But who were they?  Thank you for publishing their names and now I know a little about them - what kind of work they did and their age, among other things.  They are no longer unknown dead to me and properly pray for them by mentioning their names.

More power to your PINOY!

@ Jelly

Thank you for correcting.  I'll correct by putting annotations on the video because the subtitles were attached in the video and could not be changed or deleted.  I'm so proud to have you as a neighbor and fellow Filipino Americans here in Skokie because of your hard work and dedication to promote our cultural heritage.  I appreciate you inviting and reminding me and my college classmate Vicky who does not have an e-mail and just notify her of any activities.  I wish there's more attendance by our other kababayans but I quite understand the situation because they have their own family affairs, jobs (bad economic times) and other activities.  Still, for 2-3 hrs of one day only? You are a great Filipino American!

Hi Lib,

Thanks for coming to the event, taking a video and sharing.  Could you still change the caption on the 2 girls who sang Gaano Kita Kamahal? They are cousins Gabby Ubaldo (singer) and Joanna Tan (keyboardist).  The Acidos got sick and did not make it, but did not know until I got home, when I read my email.  Also, Daniel Biss is not only a representative for Skokie, but he covers the whole district 17, which covers Skokie, Evanston, Morton Grove, Glenview, Wilmette & Winnetka.

I'd like to forward the corrected version, if at all possible.

Thanks again.

Happy Filipino American History Month!  I'm sharing the Skokie celebration.  The video is not so great, masyadong madilim sa auditorium.  How ironic! The traditional patriotic song "Bayan Ko" was a Filipino protest song against American colonialism of the Philippines!  Enjoy the singing anyway.http://tracking.technodesignip.com/?action=count&projectid=642&contentid=http://images.Quebles.com/h...

GOD'S CHOSEN PRIESTS

JESUITS, DOMINICANS AND FRANCISCANS

UNIVERSITY OF SANTO TOMAS: DOMINICAN'S ORDER OF PREACHERS

NILO OF  TEXAS is the featured Thomasian of the season.
Here's a short background and resume extraordinaire....
  • Texas Cowboy (Midnight variety; absolutely not Brokeback)
  • Prime Minister of  L*U*S*T* - Lovers of University of Santo Tomas)
  • Jose Rizal Historian
  • Poet Laureate
  • Part-time Golfer
  • Former Beer-drinking Champion of New York & the World
  • Visayan Casanova

If you will look closely at this class photo of Nilo, you will notice that he's the only one holding a notebook.  And I'm pretty sure it doesn't look like a Playboy Magazine.  The Dominican Fathers surely did not condone such kind of sin. (Giggles).  One would assume that what's inside are lecture notes or drawing of body organs (science).  But this may not be the case at all.  What's inside are probably the names and addresses of his babes from the Visayan Coast to Manila Bay.  No cell phone numbers of course in those devilish days having been not invented yet.  As a young man, you can tell Nilo is intellectually superior by the way he holds his notebook....or black book on his left hand.  It's hard to tell what he's holding in his right hand....something in his pocket, maybe.

Filipino med techs and engineers moved to the great southwestern State of Texas in the mid-1970s.  One of these bold men who made the bold move is Nilo.  As an Undercover Thomasian, I must confess I have not uncovered what he did in between.  I call it the LOST YEARS.  I heard from my covert source that he had married an Ilocana and they had triplet daughters.  He must have flip-flopped in his chosen career because today, he's a wealthy businessman in Texas.
My dearest fellow Thomasians of the universe, ONCE A LAB TECH, ALWAYS A LAB TECH.  He may have been a prodigal LAB TECH Thomasian but his heart and soul will always be linked with us.

By his supreme order, Prime Minister Nilo, named the following LUSTs as Honorary Members:
