MIUSA Summer Picnic July 22, 2007

THE MANGALDAN ILLINOIS. OF UNITED STATES OF AMERICAINC.  (MIUSA) held their annual picnic yesterday, July 22nd, at Bunker Hill Forest Preserve at Peterson & Caldwell, Chicago.  Although I did not hail from Mangaldan, a province in Pangasinan, Philippines, I was especially invited by my college batchmate Sofie (she was formerly Mrs. Mangaldan '96) to attend very fulfilling event (masarap lahat ang pagkain).  Sofie especially prepared for me my favorite pork barbecue with lots of fat and the best palabok I have ever tasted!
I also met at the picnic Veronica Leighton, the ever lovely Filipino pioneer Publisher & Owner of the ever popular VIA-TIMES MAGAZINE and the ever gracious host of her long time Philippine-Chicago TV Show (Channel 48, every Sunday, 12 noon-1:30 pm).  I have not seen her in person since two years ago at the film world premiere of Feng Shui starring Filipino award-winning actress Kris Aquino, but I have always watched her show every Sunday except yesterday.  Giggles.  I noticed she was wearing a Bantay Bata cap - Bantay Bata (Child Watch) is a charitable organization in the Philippines mostly taking care of poor and homeless children.
I'm very thankful to Veronica for publishing my USTPMTBBAA (University of Santo Tomas Pharmacy, Medical Technology, Biochemistry, and Botany Alumni Association) announcement and my e-mail messages in the past.  What a wonderful lady she is!
Seated (l-r): Veronica Leighton, - - -? (sorry po, nakalimutan ko)
Standing (l-r): Gloria Ydia of Kiwanis Young Children Priority One (visitor from The Philippines), Lib, and Sofie
