Beyond Super Human Easter Island

THE LAND OF WONDER

EASTER ISLAND, LOCATED OFF THE COAST OF CHILE,  WAS  FIRST SETTLED AROUND 300 - 400 CE (COMMON ERA) BY THE POLYNESIANS, KNOWN AS RAPA NUI.  SOME HISTORIANS SAY IT WAS NOT INHABITED UNTIL 700 - 800 CE.

The statues of Easter Island are exceptional and my favorite because it is a man-made wonder not born out of slavery unlike the Pyramids and Sphinx of Egypt.  Thousands of years forward, archaeologists are still figuring out how these figures made it to where they are today.  Go figure yourself.

The Rapa Nuis are beyond super-human for having created the statues called Rana Nuis.  How they moved the standing statues on different sites of the island is an engineering mystery.  Moving forward through the centuries, by 1860 almost the entire population was killed by Peruvian slave traders and diseases  (tuberculosis, cholera and dysentery).  And by 1868, the remaining Rapa Nuis converted to Roman Catholicism.
