ALT - More Professional and highly political

Budz4ALT - More Personal and up close with members and friends

B*U*S*T* - My own personal favorite because it's so much fun.

I was watching NBC local news two days ago.  The teachers in Gurnee, IL (Woodland District)  went ON STRIKE because they want more money.  They were asking for almost 30% wage increase in 3 years!  My goodness.  I worked in healthcare dedicated my life to the sick and I only got 1.5% wage increase per year!!!!!!  These teachers are so greedy.

The Do Not Call Registry was put on hold by a judge in Nebraska.  I really don't have a problem with telemarketers because my computer is connected to my phone line (intentional).  I'm not a phone-aholic and my answering machine is always on.  My award-winning contributor, Susan, e-mailed me some really neat ideas how to zap these telemarketers.  I tried to forward it to the web sites but failed maybe because it was an attachment.

I know Ahhnold will be great in the debate.  Everyone has skeleton in their closets.  I myself supported Proposition 187.  I even got hold of a letter from the then Gov. Pete Wilson (May 19,1995) sent to my family who used to live in California.  We were against illegal immigrants getting support.  60% of Californians voted for it but it was deemed unconstitutional.  My parents sent me their hard-earned money to support me when I was an exchange student.  The federal government even took some in the form of taxes.  Thousands of immigration applicants from all over the world (some waiting for 5-20 years) went through the legal channel and they are still waiting.  Nevertheless, that's why we have THE CONSTITUTION.

Nobody goes to court with clean hands.

Top of the day to you!  My thanks to our hardworking ALT PRO, Mila, for arranging our Christmas group party this year  to be held at Zhivago Restaurant in Skokie on December 6, 2003 (Saturday).  This will be the 6th season of joyous get-together.  The cost per person is $44.

I'm a regular watcher of the Maclaughlin Report on PBS (6:30 PM CST) for many years.   I've heard of genetically-engineered food but moderator Maclaughlin mentioned cloned turkeys.  I baked a 20-lb bird this summer and it was so tasty.  The aroma while it's baking was so good.  So yummyI   I wonder if what I ate was a cloned turkey?  Hello to Gloria...she's also a viewer.

Oh, my!  I was watching the local NBC News yesterday (my TV is always on everyday for 14 hrs) and this was what I heard.  Queen Elizabeth, the royal host, was mad and upset with Pres. Bush for destroying her beautiful flowers and trees in Buckingham Palace.  Could this be true?  I was walking on the palace ground few years ago and it was big enough for a small helicopter to land.  I wonder what the White House did to compensate.  One thing is for sure, Pres. Bush will never be invited again.

I never figured this yet.  Outlook Express automatically removes unsafe attachment from my e-mail.  So I don't get to see all my e-mails.  I wonder if they are really unsafe?

                                   HAPPY TURKEY DAY

  2. HIS GREATEST THANKSGIVING OF ALL.... FROM CHEERLEADER TO COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF, GEORGE W. BUSH HAS COME A LONG WAY FROM YALE TO THE WHITE HOUSE.  HE IS A VISIONARY AND HE PLANTED THE SEED OF DEMOCRACY IN THE MIDDLE EAST.  HE JUST SAFELY CAME BACK FROM BAGHDAD WHERE HE SERVED THANKSGIVING TURKEY WITH THE TROOPS.  IT WAS A REAL BOOSTER!  IN PERSONALLY  THANKING THE SOLDIERS HE MIGHT AS WELL HAVE GIVEN HIMSELF THE BEST THANKSGIVING DAY OF HIS LIFE.  AS PART OF THE A.L.T. MOST ADMIRED SERIES, I AM CURRENTLY WRITING A PIECE ON HIM CALLING HIM THE GREATEST PRESIDENT OF THE MILLENNIUM.

  5. These telemarketers are a pain in the butt.  They keep calling at the wrong time and at the wrong place and when you're most busy.   We'll take a look at The Swan Monday and see who wins.  We're FOX watchers anyway.   We're quite optimistic Iraq will shine through.  The darkest hour is just before dawn.  We as Americans must realize the United States should stay a while longer to guide and protect  the new government.   Sorry, Jasmine is out of American Idol.  We love her grace.   4 0f 4

  7. Dear Managers:

Thanks for keeping me up to date with your web sites.
It's always nice to read what's new with you all.
We've been playing the lottery for many years now
but so far no luck.  Only $3 two weeks ago. How
about $33 million?  We need your Midas touch.
    I'm a Vietnam vet and I'm sick
of the criticism of our boys and girls out there in Iraq.
The liberals make me puke!  They kept asking when
are we going to get out of there.  What is our exit
strategy?  You're right, the liberals of today where
the liberal activists during the 60s and 70s.  Let me
say this, we're not gonna get out.  We still have
bases in Europe & Asia after 50 years.  Nixon, a Republican,
was sensible enough to end the Vietnam War.
The Vietnamese did fine on their own.  We now
have good relationship with them. Bush, the greatest
president and leader of all-time, will do fine also.
I have no doubt about it because he's a republican
and a true American.  He's got my vote.

  12. Mango....Here I am drinking my mango
juice very carefully so as not to spill it in my computer keyboard.  I
always think of my dear mother and mango.  The Philippines has the best
mango in the whole world.  It's much much better than varieties from India,
Mexico and Puerto Rico.  Philippine mango is yellow and sweet, smooth and
fiberless.  Every time my mother would go on a short vacation to the
Philippines she'd bring back fresh bags of mangoes with her.  And every
time the custom inspector at the U.S. point of entry, either Hawaii or Los
Angeles, would throw the fruits in the garbage can.  We told her it's
against immigration policy but would still do it time and time again.  The
last time I heard from her she was fined $50.  I don't know how much
now.  She finally stopped but not because of the fines but she was
beginning to tire of the long travel to the Philippines.  Mango juice will
be good for the Philippine economy, I think.  Right now, India has the
monopoly on mango juice.  Filipino stores in Chicago sell canned coconut
juice and mango juice in concentrated pack   SKOKIEMLA@aol.com  unlike the Indian
mango juice that is sold in plastic bottle.  Indians don't like coconut
juice and there are 2.6 millions Indians that are crazy with mango juice.
Delicious mango juice from the Philippines is by far superior and is rich
in Potassium, Vitamin A and C, Calcium and Iron.  To promote it in the
Indian and American markets, the Philippine Government should hire MANGO of
SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE.  He's better known as Chris Kattan, a very funny guy I
must say. Hilarious!  I laugh all the time and every time I see him in
    re-runs.

    The Year
    of Living Politically....This
is amazing to me.  President Bush is not only battling terrorism abroad but
inside the United States of A, too.  I equate the extreme left and the
liberal media with the likes of Osama (I have not forgotten the a-hole) and
Al-Zarqawi (another a-hole). With all the slings and arrows heaped on
President Bush by these anti-Americans, he's still maintaining his lead.
With the spirit of freedom guiding his vision the desire of the terrorists will
definitely fail.  Take the superstar Barbra Streisand - she's an ideologue
and a staunch Democrat.  Now there's nothing wrong with that.  Her
being Jewish, she should be thankful to the Bush Administration in supporting
Israel and trying to implement a viable peace plan.  It's a very complex
matter.  But even here in the United States there are people who have the
rotten mentality of Arafat and Osama wannabes like Al_Zarqawi.  Back in the
80's I saw this boring documentary on PBS about big corporation (GM).  I
was not a FBPO then for I was busy partying and watching DYNASTY on TV.
Well, what do you know?  The producer of that boring documentary is the
obnoxious Michael Moore and he just released the anti-Bush film
Fahrenheit 9/11.  Again, let me ask you again.  What do we
know about 9/11 that we don't know already?....Unless you were in a psychiatric
hospital these last three years.  The documentary is nothing but a
political propaganda and a low-budget film, spliced and put together in t

    Where's the
    Beef?....Gone!
....I  was in panic.  I've been on
high-carb of rice and potato and high-protein diet all my living years.
For me, everything and all things are genetic and generic.  All the folks
in my family lived until the age of 90 plus.  Anyway, I was out of beef so
I thought of going to Sam's Club last week and using the guest pass I got from
Discover card.  I'm not a bulk buyer so I did not apply for the $35
membership fee.  Once there, I went from aisle to aisle picking up items in
my grocery list - mostly junk foods.  Hey, the Bill Clinton book only sells
for $18.75 compare to the bookstore prize of $35.  I just browsed and
flipped through the pages.  Hmmm....the photos are in black and
white.  I did not buy, I was just nosy.  After 2 hours, I got all I
wanted and checked out.  Let me tell you...life is full of little
unexpected surprises.  I found out you buy the items in its original
package and no more plastic bags with the Sam's Club logo.  Maybe, they
were just out of bags?  I'm not a fast thinker.  I did not
asked.  I was hungry.  Everything is an after thought with me.
One thing is up to my satisfaction - Sam's Club has the best and juicy
    beef.

    My
Investment....Now I have a beautiful new roof on my
humble little house in the multicultural village north of
Chicago.  It's a much holdover makeover after 20 years.  There's this
Mediterranean house on sale for $300,000 just a few houses to mine.  Years
ago, houses in my neighborhood sold for less than $90,000 or less.  Most of
my friends who are money savvy have houses or condos.  Don't rent - buy a
house while the interest is still low.  However, if it's not one thing it's
another.  I have 3 trees in my backyard as tall as the giant
Sequoias.  One of the branches is hanging on top of my beautiful new
roof.  This is bad especially when the leaves fall in the Fall.  I
have to look around soon for a tree cutter for they don't come cheap.

    Sovereign
Iraq.... This will be the last time I'll write about
Iraq.  As far as I'm concern, everything is a done deal.  Another
mission accomplished for President Bush.  The seed of democracy has been
planted in the Middle East.  So let freedom grow and bloom forever.
Iraq is so full of promises with its oil-rich land.  With the promise
support and spirit of cooperation given to President Bush  at the G8, EU,
and NATO summits - Iraq will be a great success.  What a defeat...
what a blow to the doom and gloom (borrowing again from Rush Limbaugh) terrorist
sympathizers of the world.  Come to think of it, what happened in Iraq
these past 14 months is so EXTRAORDINARY!  To quote Terence: "I am a man, nothing concerning mankind is alien to
me."  Yes! President Bush is a uniter
    not a divider.

    Fireworks in
    Evanston....
I called the folks in the Texas town of McAllen to wish
    them a Happy Fourth yesterday.
    It's summer time
and they are just taking it easy.
They said they're watching old movies in Turner Movie Classics
channel and FOX NEWS' Fox and
Friends.  I told them I'm celebrating
as usual when I'm back in the old crib
    - watch the fireworks from my perfect
picture window - just like President Bush
    who watched the Capitol fireworks
at the Truman balcony of the White House.  You may say I have the
best lawn chair when it comes to fireworks

in Evanston.  Unlike my friends who
plan to retire in Arizona, I intend to live and die in Evanston.  Before
    the neighboring
town of Kenilworth became the wealthiest
community in the whole of US of A, Evanston was during the days of
    Al
Capone.  A little bit of historical
    information for you.

    Dittohead #1: Rush Limbaugh....
This is probably old news I'm not sure.  The  Doctor of Democracy is being
deprived of his constitutional rights - a
    clear violation of the First
Amendment.  The liberal Democrats are not only
socialists but also fascists and the mastermind in charge of the cabals is Sen. Tom Harkin.  He introduced a

resolution  in Congress to remove the Rush Limbaugh Show  www.wlsam.com   <a target="_top" href="http://www.rushlimbaugh.com"

    French
    Connection....
Last week, I was chatting over the fence with my next
door neighbor May Yan.  She's Chinese and she's married to David who's a
Jew.  We talked of many things mostly about China.  She used to
produce  TV documentary in Beijing but quit since she said she did not have
the patience to do documentary for it takes years and years of investigation and
follow up . She also told me the ones who built the airport in France that
collapsed last month were the ones building the big dam in China.  Isn't
that SCARY? I have to check this out because sometimes it's hard for a Filipino
and a Chinese to communicate in English.  I misunderstand a lot of things,
    you know.  Dyslexia....ADD.

    My TV....
JEOPARDY contestant Ken Jennings, software engineer
from Utah, is raking it in and decimating the others to zero or less than zero
for more than 3 weeks now.  Sometimes I'm confuse if it's a re-run because
the questions have been asked before in previous shows.  The folks in
McAllen are regular watchers and they are wondering who suggested the no limits
on how long to win.  Fellow Chicago watcher Mother Jovie missed the show
for she was in Jamaica.  I must say THE VIEW (ABC) is the most liberal
women show right now and there's nothing but Star Jones and Joy Behar on that
show.  Oh, yes....they try to balance the show by putting Elisabeth
Hasselbeck of Survivor but I am not fooled.  I'm back to watching
Judge Joe Brown and Judge Larry Joe (Texas Justice) on Chicago's FOX 32 (10-11
AM CST) .  I know, I know.  Nothing but
judge...judge...judge!  Few years ago, a woman from Nielsen's
TV Rating called me up in person on what I noted down in the viewer's
booklet they provided me.  Nothing but Judge Judy, Judge Mathis, Judge
Marilyn, Judge Larry of Moral Court and did I forget any judge?  What is a
college grad doing watching these shows?  Let me tell you, I'm not
alone.  Take my friend Ihor, a medical graduate from Ukraine.  He
watches Judge Mathis in Chicago's WCIU Channel 26.

    The Thomasian.... I'm
posting this new page on the Message Board of A.L.T.  It's to provide an
insight on what's happening with my fellow U.S.T. alumni.  I asked the
officers and members about their own school and classmates - they told me
they have lost touched and have gone their own way.  This is understandable
and real.  Life goes on.  My fellow Thomasians are a close-knit
group.  One of the reason being the B.S. Medical Technology course
started at the University of Santo Tomas and several private Universities
and Colleges followed later on.  The Rev. Fr. Lorenzo Rodriguez, O.P. of
the Dominican order started the curriculum in June 14, 1961.  I only have
good memories of Dean Rodriguez for he always had a happy smile whenever I
greet him "Good Morning, Father."  I tried to maintain a low
profile in those days especially when I was wearing my
    short-short white gala uniform.

  17. A New Day....
I'm enjoying the just beautiful endless days of summer here in Middle Earth America - Illinois - The
    State of
Lincoln.  My folks in Texas are also having a
wonderful time but not the "Girlie" men in
California.  Here I am back in my
lounge chair after briskly walking across the
freshly mowed green grass of Skokie
    Park.       www.sculpturepark.org

After a refreshing fizz of Coke, I called Mila,
PRO, to check on how the Greece trip is going (I
    have not renewed my
    passport yet) and
asked Melba, VP, on any future lab
seminars.  Everything is on the up and up and just letting  routine

    technology and science do the
job. The RHC-Saint E  lab staff gave a
Retirement Party for coworker Raymond last
    Thursday, July 15th.   He'll be
moving to Miami closer to his dear brother and his home island of Haiti.  By
    the way, CBS-TV has
summer re-runs of my favorite CSI MIAMI.  Ray
was more than a lab tech.  Together with his wife, they take care of
    four
foster children along with their pretty young

  18. Philippine
    Politics....
Filipino sexy porn starlet Keanna Reeves ( no relation to
my favorite American actor Keanu Reeves and sort of local counterpart of
Hollywood Madam Heidi Fleiss) seemed to be backing out of testifying and
identifying members of Philippine Congress involve in a sex escort
scandal.  She said in an interview her life had been threatened.  As
of this writing, I did not hear anymore of this juicy news from the
    homeland.

    Manila
Envelope.... I was watching a Philippine News Channel some
weeks ago and saw an American young woman shouting and demonstrating with the
activist political party -Gabriela.  Why may I ask strangers from foreign
countries meddling with Philippine politics?  The Philippine
Government should have strict immigration policy with liberal strangers who are
inciting riots and have no intention but bad for the common good of the Filipino
    people.

    Reporting For Jury Duty...
Me oh my! Well, well, well.  Billionaire philanthropist and TV talk-show
queen Oprah was called and picked
for jury duty in a criminal case in Chicago.  In America, no one is above
the law - be you a famous person or just a hardworking private citizen.
There's nothing more worthwhile than exercising your civic duty and
participating in the process.  She tried to make excuses like all of
us who have been called and chosen before.  Excuses like - "I'm a racist"
or "I'm opinionated" (her excuse) or "I own my own business and my job needs me"
or "I was a victim of a crime and probably will be bias due to what happened to
me" or "I watch a lot of TV and I'm familiar with the case because I saw the
news report before" (my excuse but the judge did not buy it saying, "Hearing the
evidence you can form your own sound judgment, isn't that right
Ms_?")  Anyway, unlike Oprah who arrived in her sleek limousine
complete with bodyguards on the first day, I have to drive from end to end, far
and away and beat the traffic from the far north side of Chicago to the
south side at the 26th Street Criminal Court Building.  Now that was really
hardship for a lady of convenience like me.  Unlike Oprah who need not
submit her $17.20 jury duty paycheck to her boss for she's her own boss, I had
to give my 3-day pay to my employer as proof I went on jury duty (I got the
checks back including my salary compensation while away for 3 days from my
job).  Unlike Oprah who had a carry-out order of turkey salad (she treated
her fellow jurors with catfish for lunch) I, for some reason or I was just
drained or famished, enjoyed the delicious (yes!) cafeteria food (on the last
day, the judge allowed us to order pizza and we had to pay for it
ourselves).  I must say Oprah was really not inconvenienced because she was
called in a time in her life when she owned and ruled the world in her own
well manicured fingertips.  She got her first-hand experience of law and
order and she already taped some segments for her show.
I wonder if she was chosen as the jury foreman?

I have to go and e

  20. Baby, The Rain
    Must Fall....
The grass is greener in my lawn and the shining light of
the sun is making it look more beautiful to the eyes like a precious stone
of emerald green.  All this due to the rain that's been falling this
past few week in my little corner of the world. It's been a cool
summer.   But in the Philippines - it's the rainy season and the
typhoon has devastated and ravaged 15 municipalities in the northern
Philippines causing landslide and death to some people.  Mother Nature
takes care of herself and the raindrops falling on God's green earth are both a
miracle and a curse.  I call it environmental correction.

    Brain Clean-Up....When my
brain gets full of useful and useless information I go to my MSN Encarta to
unload.  In some tests like about snakes and Hollywood stars, I'd get
almost perfect or perfect 10 first time .  I'd get feel-good words like
"You should be a herpetologist" or "You know your Hollywood stars."
In few instances where I've taken the same quiz two or three times before like
Greek Mythology, I'd get a low score.  Every time I'd feel surprise for
I've seen a lot of  Hercules and the other gods and goddesses  on TV
and it should be my strong point.  Anyway, I get encourage all the time to
take the quiz and not ashamed for every time I get uplifting words of praise
like "It's Greek to you."  MSN Encarta must have followed the advise of the
Thessalonians - correction does much but encouragement does more.  Take the
quiz sometime when you have the time.

    Recycling....I had enough
of three days of house cleaning.  Each day and at the end of the clean-up I
got a mild headache.  Most of the bulk are catalogues, magazines and
unopened envelopes from many charitable organizations.  Nobody would
believe how much garbage I threw out each day.  I received millions of name
labels, thousands of assorted cards and numerous calendars.  You see, for
once you've ordered and you're in their permanent list, blizzards of
unending materials will be in the mailbox forever - day after day, week after
week, month after month and year after year.  Sometime ago, I happened to
be waiting for an important call from the folks in Texas and the phone
rang.  I don't usually answer the phone but I did.  It was a call from
one of those charities.  I asked, "I just gave and you kept sending me
letters.  Aren't you wasting too much stamps and papers?"  She said,
"It does not cost that much."  And I said, "But things add up.  Can't
you just send it twice a year? (I was naïve to ask)"  Take for instance the
widow of the McDonald's founder.  Joan Kroc gave $1 billion donation to the
Salvation Army.  Then I was watching the news one day and I heard they're
going to spend the money for a NEW MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR BUILDING!
WHAT! WHAT!  I thought it's for the poor children, the
homeless and disaster victims.  You know, after much debating, I
decided to stop giving to stop these paper wastes and postal spam.  The
recycle man collecting my huge recycle bin must have been amazed at how
much trash there was for it was full to the brim.

  22. A Taste of
    Pita....
My Thomasian chums, Susan and Gerry, treated me for
Mediterranean dinner at Pita Inn.  The place is very popular and there's
always a long line for carry-out.  For appetizers, they ordered
Hummus (blend of ground chick peas and Tahini), Baba
Ghannoug (blend of mashed eggplant, Tahini, yogurt and parsley) and
Tabouleh Salad (made of freshly diced tomatoes, onions, parsley and
cracked wheat).  For entrée, I had my usual favorite of Shish Kabob with
rice pilaf.  For dessert, we drove for a mile to DUTCH TREAT CREAMERY, a
Filipino-owned home-made ice cream delight.  Susan had a scoop of
Lychee ice cream, Gerry had purple yam or ube and I had
the big mix of halo-halo ($4.95).

    Vice-President by Proxy....
Vicky A., another Thomasian and next-door neighbor, sprained her left
foot while taking a picture of her visitors from California in front of the
leaning Tower of Pisa in Niles, Illinois.  It's the exact building replica
of the real thing in Italy.  I know the tricky spot very well for I've been
there before with my folks from Texas.  She'll be in a cast for more than a
month.  Yesterday, I drove her for her appointment to her orthopedic
doctor at RHC-St. Francis Hospital, the most beautiful hospital in Evanston
and neighboring north shore area.  It has plenty of parking space, the
security guards are friendly and helpful, new gift shop full of pretty stuff and
a piano playing happy tunes electronically near the lobby.  I stopped by at
the lab to say hello to Lab Tech Josie, A.L.T. member, for I have not seen her
since August of 2003.   She just came back from her yearly trip
to the Philippines.  We hug and I said goodbye for I did not want to bother
her much at work in Chemistry.  Vicky's check-up was done in half an hour
and she accompanied me to my shopping appointment at the Lincolnwood Mall.
With her limping, we walked slowly to CARSON'S where I dropped my used clothes
at the GOODWILL bin.  I got my 15% GOODWILL coupons and bought myself some
much needed household items.  I also hopped with her at the OLD NAVY
and bought, what else, new clothes paid with my FREE GIFT CARD of $20
from my VISA card for using it.  Proof, once again, there's no place like
America!  You know, my big brother, up to this day, kept pounding me how
giving, how generous America is to immigrants (legal, illegal), Blacks and other
minorities.  Let me explain - he's talking about social, educational,
health and many government programs being implemented for the good of the
    people.

    Feng Shui, The Movie....
Starring KRIS AQUINO, the popular movie actress and daughter of
CORY AQUINO, the  former president of the Philippines.  The film
directed by Chito Rono will hold its world premiere, the first for a Filipino
film, on September 18 at the Golf Glen Theater in Niles.  She will be
present to welcome her Filipino fans in Chicago.  Feng Shui is a play by
Roy Iglesias and it traces the lives of a couple whose fortune changes for the
better after the wife picks up a mysterious mirror left in a bus by a
    stranger.  The mirror, called

  24. Dear ALTPRES:  I saw the finale of the AMAZING RACE. El Nido Resort in Palawan is so awesome.  I'm happy the million dollar winners CHIP & KIM won because CHIP is the only one who appreciated the beauty of the island.  I clapped my hands for them too at the ending.

  25. Another sweet and cheerful Sunday my dear relatives and
friends all over the United States and Canada...including the
Philippines.  A.L.T. has a regular browser there by the name of Vicky
    M. (Mila's friend).  Hello and keep on clicking.   I just
finished eating my order of fried chicken skin, popcorn chicken and freedom
fries...mmmmm...crispy!  I'm quite happy when I eat my favorite
    food.

    Too Much Too Soon....Family
and friends of Embryonic Stem Cells activist Christopher Reeve, including his
doctors, should have told him to take it easy.  Probably they did and I'll
probably will never know.  He exhausted himself to death, I think.
Now, former President Bill Clinton is doing the same thing.  Kerry and the
Democrats must be really and truly desperate.  Here's this guy who just had
his quadruple heart bypass being taken out of his recuperation period to
campaign and help the candidacy of the dour and elitist Kerry.  I must say
it's hard for him to change in sheep's clothing this late in the
game.  Kerry has reinvented himself again - in hunting and in faith.
Where heart patients rest for six months, Clinton is scheduled to go on a very
tiring campaign tour for Kerry.  But let's face it.  Who are these
guys fooling?  When people look at Bill Clinton, they only think of one
thing and one thing alone - MONICA LEWINSKI.  Why even Al-Gore did not ask
Clinton to campaign for him.  My free and unsolicited advice to Bill
Clinton - stay home, take a bed rest and save yourself the
    trouble.

    The FLU Flap....This is the
unkindest medical campaign attack of them all by Flip-Flap-Flop Kerry.
Politicizing the lack of Flu vaccine.  Vaccination as a preventive measure
has been ignored by many in the past.  As a young kid growing up in a Third
World Country, I had much-needed vaccinations to have immunity until my dying
days.  Thanks to the World Health Organization.   US soldiers
declined to have injections of Anthrax vaccine and healthcare workers the
Smallpox vaccine because of dangerous side effects that may even lead to
death.  Why the PANIC?!  There is no need.  The problem with
America is it's over-medicated.  China did not have vaccines for SARS and
Bird Flu virus but there was no PANIC in the world community because of self
containment.  The Flu virus (short for Influenza) is transmitted
through droplets with a spherical dimension of 80 to 120 nanometer and direct
personal contacts.  There are basic things to avoid the Flu:

Wash hands (if water is not available, use
    antibacterial hand gel)
Avoid being kissed by children (old people
    are susceptible to their virus)
    Avoid crowd.

  26. PARTY
    ON....
I was at a "Going Away" dinner party last
night hosted by Mama Lina for A.L.T. Vice-President Melba who'll be
relocating to California at the end of the month.  She's going to be an
inspector for  CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment).  We
arrived at the same time, 30 minutes late, and she helped me with my parallel
parking.  It turned out it's her second party of the day.  Another one
will be given tomorrow by Dr. Haque, the gentlewoman and beautiful
Pakistani lab pathologist at her hospital. Parking at Mama Lina's place in
Chicago is not so easy - as a visitor you have to get a residential parking
permit.  Mama Lina and her husband Dick made it easier for guests like me
by waiting in front of their house and giving me the sticker.  I got to
chat with Dan, a retiree and a good friend of A.L.T.  The recent
presidential election is still a hot topic and I asked Dan if he voted.  He
said he likes Bush but did not vote and added, "What's the use?" (Illinois is a
heavily democratic state)  Well, it's useful in national popularity vote
for every vote counts.  We all expressed our wonder how President Bush got
elected - what with all the exaggerated and unfair attacks on Christians and
people of faith as wackos, media bias, lies and twisted
facts, annoying liberal pundits, over-hyped books, anti-Bush movie and
foul-mouthed Hollywood celebrity endorsement.  Six days ago, average
Americans saw through the veneer of organized hate by the media against
President Bush and voted to re-elect him for four more years.  A.L.T.
PRO Mila joked, "OSAMA won in Illinois."  (There's a candidate
named OBAMA for senator) I had my digital picture taken with my
fellow Republicans before I left the party.  Thanks to Mama Lina for the
    Cadbury Chocolate and my
favorite food to go of pork and chicken adobo, pancit,
fruit salad and fried tilapia.  Filipinos just love to eat and
tell jokes.  Filipinos are happy people.

    War on Poverty
    and Hunger....
I sometimes wake up in the
morning listening to the voice First Lady Laura Bush fighting the war on
hunger.  There are 30,000 children dying very day of hunger and disease
in the world.  Of the 35.9 million Americans living in poverty, one in
every six children, there are 1 million poor people in Illinois - 840,000 of
them in the city of Chicago alone - making it the 12th largest in the
United States.  It's a big moral issue.  I ask myself, self, where do
the billions and billions of money donated to millions of charitable
organizations by  generous ordinary Americans, United Nations
fundraising, business foundations and billionaires go?  Where and what do
they do with the money?   Is it just going to waste? I'm
stomped!  But then again...maybe not.  A few months ago,
FORBES magazine, the bible of the rich, listed the world's
richest people.  Numero Uno again at $48 billion is Bill Gates of Microsoft
    - the one and only <

  27. Thomasian Beb's of Quest Diagnostics and I of the A.L.T.
    Culture Club
attended the very successful  57th Annual Fall
Meeting and Pasteur Award Luncheon of the Illinois Society for Microbiology at Café La Cave in Rosemont, Illinois.
First Past President Janice Pinson of Michigan told me the attendance was so far
the best of previous meetings and it was the first time to be held in the
daytime.  Thomasian Beb's saw former lab co-workers and chatted with them
    about old times.

    A Headless Squirrel was
lying near my garage door when I went home after the meeting. I'm assuming it
was Lily, the German shepherd dog of my next-door neighbor who did the dastardly
crime.  I just kept on walking and I did what I usually do when I don't
know what to do - ignore it.  Thanks to Mexican Tony, my cheap landscaper,
who came for the Fall clean-up and he'd done away with the dead critter.

    The Human Race is inhuman.
The murder of kidnapped humanitarian and CARE International Director MARGARET
HASSAN by her abductors in Iraq is extreme barbarism.  For some divine
reason, bad things always happen to good people.  She dedicated 30 years of
her life for the people of Iraq and it's hard for me to believe the Iraqis
are her murderers.  But man's will to do good will never end.  I am a
person of small means but I have the will and when I set my mind in achieving
any goal I accomplish it.  Call it Lady Willpower.  I am very optimistic for a democratic
election in Iraq.  America is a superpower and has the will to get things
rolling and keep the momentum going in cleaning up insurgent cities.
Curfews and full support of brave US and Coalition troops must be imposed on the
day of election on January 30th.  Because of willpower,  powerless
little people can do it.  America has more will than those
    militants.

Chile Con Bush In Santiago -
So n'synch with what I'm thinking.  I was
watching BBC NEWS and a footage of the President in the APEC (Asia
Pacific Economic Cooperation) summit was shown helping his favorite lead secret
service agent get pass through the Chilean security.  What a hands-on man
    our beloved President Bush is!

Two Fridays Ago I heard a
knock on the door.  It was the village policeman asking me if I heard
anything unusual.  The garage of the third house to my right had been
broken to and some tools had been stolen.  Most of the time I don't really
know what's going on and I'm just an unreliable witness to anything.
Once in a while I read the police blotter and sad to say robbery is very common in my
neighborhood.  Why, there are even shoplifters and daring robberies in
shopping mall stores from robbers coming from faraway towns.

  28. Gravy is a
    Groovy Thing!....
There was a pre-Thanksgiving Day frosting of an inch
of snow or maybe 2 inches here in the Midwest last week.  I have to decline
a couple of invitation from my fellow Thomasians Susan L and Vicky A for being a "Lady of

A Lot To Be Glad Thankful
    For!....
I noted the following before watching  the Macy's
Thanksgiving Parade and Purina Dog Show on NBC:

I'm blessed to be living in America
    I'm free to be me
As a woman, I don't live in a country where
    I'm treated as second-class citizen
    George W. Bush was re-elected
    America is No. 1
Oh Me, Oh My!  What a
    Surprise!....
I had 2 unexpected and wonderful surprise yesterday when I
opened my mailbox.  First, I received a beautiful personally signed
Christmas card from the beloved President Bush and lovely First Lady Laura.  What do you know?!  I'm in the
"A" list of the WHITE HOUSE!  This is a high honor for an ordinary
citizen like me living a simple life.  Really and truly, President Bush is
not only "A Man Of Destiny" but "A Man For All Americans."  Second and not
of great honor and consequence, my State Farm Insurance agent Fred
Navarro, a Filipino-American Hall of Fame recipient here in Chicago, mailed
me his business 2005 calendar.  Usually I get it in March or
    April!

The MSN Windows Movie Maker is

Because it's so easy and convenient.  I just finished my
5th CD film Babushka Productions simply titled A
    Filipino
American Immigrants (subtitled The Filgrims) - a
photobiography of my old folks and relatives.  It's so much fun with

  29. Dear ALTPRES,

We're watching ABC News with Peter Jennings yesterday and he mentioned your town of Evanston.  It's about blue state and red state.  We don't have your favorite Brian Williams of NBC News here in the valley.

One of our kababayan, Romeo Dela Rosa, a maintenance man at the US consulate in Jedda, was one of the 8 killed in the attack yesterday.  He'd been working there for so many years.  This is a reverse crusade by extremist Muslims against the United States and the coalition.   Even the parents of these terrorists have unbelievable thinking!  It's a test of will and with prayer, we'll prevail.

  30. It's Never Too
    Late!....
I finally did it!  It took me a long time to attend
to things put aside for more important stuff.  By now, my dear relatives,
friends and fellow alumni had received my Christmas cards and my favorite 20
charities also had gotten the very little money gift I mailed.
Again, every year and this year, I'm hoping my small gift from the heart will go
to the people in need of help.  I remember growing up in the Philippines,
the US AID and gifts from the generous American people hardly go to those
that are in dire need.   I was watching BBC News a week ago - only $3
per person is contributed to aid to the poor in Africa.  It's never ever
enough with a with a population of more than 6 billion (6,406,735,998 right
    now) people.

    I'm A
Deadbeat!....PBS  www.pbs.org had a documentary about how credit
card started some weeks ago.  I'm not the only one that pays my credit card
bill in full to avoid financial interest.  Banks hate me and they call
credit card holders like me (reaching a peak of 25 or more cards at one
time)  'Deadbeats" for always paying in full.  The
all-around money expert and millionaire adviser Ben Stein in an interview
is also a 'deadbeat.'  It's foolish and not money-wise to be
paying your creditor banks 16 to 29% interest when they only put $0.50 in your
    savings account.

    ALIAS Fans!....Mila A,
you got your wish.  You told me why don't ABC move ALIAS to Wednesday if
it's not going to be on Sunday.   Well, A. L. T. loyal fans of ALIAS
like Melba, Suzie, Judy, Luz M and yours truly will be happy to know the TV show
will be back Wednesday, Jan. 5.  ALIAS was replaced on its time slot of 8
pm (CST) by Desperate Housewives - a hit
new show popular to sex-starved viewers of all
ages.  Frankly, having never seen it, I'm trashing it!   As
an added news bits, A. L. T. favorite beauty of all time Jennifer Garner has a
new motion picture called ELECTRA to be released Jan. 14.  I saw a preview
    and I was .... electrified!

    Eat Your Heart Out!.... The
chairman of Cleveland Clinic is blatantly intimidating fast food vendors
especially McDonald's  to get out of its food court building. I was
watching Brian Williams of NBC News report about this yesterday and it came
to light that the prestigious heart clinic had already kicked out Pizza Hut
and Subway may follow in the future.  This cause by the Cleveland Clinic is
nonsense and not justifiable.  To attack my favorite comfort food of fries
is stupid!  What I like is what I crave.  I can eat 3 orders of large
fries in 3 minutes.  How come I never see any attacks by clinic
foundations and other media health organizations of drinking hard liquor?
How we live our life is already mapped in our gene make-up.  We live in a
multi-cultural society and we eat different ethnic food.  Differ

  31. Baby
New Year.... is 8-day old today.  It's also the 70th
birthday of Elvis if he lived to see 2005.  Last year, all in all, was a
very good year for my family and me.  Personally, there are so many sweet
memories to cherish and remember and they will forever be pressed between
the pages of my mind and cerebrally photographed.  To some of my friends
and people I see in the news, 2004 is not a very good year - the lost of a
father or a mother, the lost of a young or old soldier in war and peace and
the lost of lives in natural disasters.  No matter what, I really and
truly believed it's one's destiny.  What you sow is what you reap.
What goes around, comes around.  Every day is a reminder that whatever bad
or good you do to your fellow person - you will be rewarded or punished one
    hundred times.

    People Power in Iraq.... is
what's missing.  The good Sunnis should reach out and be more vocal against
the bad Bhatt Sunnis like what the people of the Philippines (EDSA), China
(Tiananmen)  and Ukraine (Orange Kiev) did to their oppressors and
dictators.  And if I'm some enterprising business person, I'd open a
bicycle store in Iraq and sell thousands or millions of bikes to those
suffering people.  I'd be rich too.  Why and how so?  Car
bombing is so rampant over there cars should not be allowed to enter the city up
to a certain point.  Well, just as my brother told me there should be a
check point within a check point - park the car and ride the bike to the market,
store, office, even to the military base and wherever.  Shoot to kill any
who disobeys.  During the Japanese occupation of the Philippines in World
War II, my dear old father got around the war zone of Manila in his
bicycle.  He only stopped his bike each time to salute a Japanese officer
at the check point.  You don't salute, you get slap in the face.  A
suicide car bomber would like to kill as many group of people as possible.
One bike.  One person.  One survivor.

  32. Winter * Wonderland.... is all
around.  I looked out of my window and saw fresh tracks of squirrels
going from tree to tree on top of a foot of snow blanketing my yard.  The
month of January is another new beginning for some and I promise myself to try
shedding a few fats for the past year had not been kind.  It's quite
difficult I must say for food is made available so cheap in my
neighborhood.  I must confess food is always on my mind - while driving,
while watching TV or listening to the radio, while talking to a friend on the
phone or while inside a church.  Even when I'm eating I'm always on a
food watch!  I still have to go to FOOD FOR LESS store that my
next-door neighbor David T. told me across the fence last year.  It's quite
the same as SAM'S CLUB or COSTCO only there's one big important difference - no
membership fee!  America is so beautiful, so bountiful.

The 55th Inaugural Message of President George
    W. Bush....
"Self government relies on the governing of the
    self."
His re-election to four more years in office is a triumph
against the bias mainstream media agenda, liberal Democrats, Hollywood
celebrities and misleading polls.  They are so out of touch with middle
America and average Americans.  My open message to President Bush as a
fellow American is keep on believing and keep on governing the United States of
America.  I was so proud watching the inauguration ceremony for 6 hours on
NBC with Brian Williams.  The well-funded and professional liberal
protestors were hard to ignore of course.  They are soft-core terrorists
and abusers of the democratic process. Psychologically speaking, they
are just compensating and excusing their fears and inadequacies in not being
able to serve their country.  Cowards.  In comparison, majority of
Americans praise, support and salute the young volunteer men and women
(they are not kids) that are so amazingly brave in the chaos and destruction of
war.  It may not be their dream job but for them it's an honor and
privilege to fight for liberty and freedom.

He who fights and runs away

May live to fight another day

He who is in battle's slain

Like a rolling stone the Iraqi election is rolling towards democracy.  If some Iraqis are intimidated by militants and afraid to go to the polling booth why can't they vote by ABSENTEE BALLOT?  Voters could think of many valid excuses...like "I don't feel well" or "I'll be out of town."  There was no mention of ABSENTEE BALLOTS this in the news.

  34. Dear ALTPRES:

I enjoyed my chit-chat with you yesterday.  I was not surprised at your response when I told you about this guy in the restaurant who was so mad at Bush.   Living in the "blue state"we have to tolerate the Dems.  They don't understand the billions of dollars being spent in Iraq are mostly for the common good of our US troops - armors, food, military supplies etc...etc...As a superpower, the US has a duty to protect the oppressed people of the world from tyranny and dictatorship.  As a nation of Christian faith we have a duty to help our poor neighbors.  The one and only great humanitarian Bill Gates of Microsoft was interviewed on BBC.  He said charitable foundations can't do it alone...rich countries should contribute more.

The US is not only contributing money but blood.  The mothers and fathers of American soldiers that died in the war in Iraq and Afghanistan will forever feel the pain of losing a son or a daughter.  It's never enough to say sorry to them.

I know in my twisted philosophical mind that justice was served already for what happened on September 11.  It's always at the expense of the innocents.  The 270,000 Tsunami victims of 10 populated Muslim countries had washed away the sins of Osama bin Laden.  Nature has a way of giving justice and more so at a higher price.

I like your explanation why you like the semi-privatization of social security.  Your comparison of getting only 65 cents interest in your savings account (the whole year) and $26 (quarterly = total $104) in your conservative investment is very wise.  Big difference.  Yes, it's risky...that's why we have financial adviser you say.  Workers (18-65) should dabble conservatively, aggressively and in-between.  Whatever that is.

             Let's chit-chat again.

             Thanks!

  35. At
Last.... The expression of freedom has come along and arrived
in Iraq yesterday.  Old and baby Babylonians alike heard the voice of
freedom loud and clear.  They mustered the red and green (the true colors
of their flag) badge of courage to march to the polling booths.  They
walked a mile to vote.  The Iraqis know they only have one country - united
with one heart and one mind.  In the words of Pope John Paul II, though of
different religion he has the same thoughtful message with peace-loving
people of the world,  "Freedom is like a
    lightIt enables one to
    choose responsibly his proper goals
and the right means of achieving
them."  Many Iraqis are mindful and equally sorry that more 1400
American soldiers have died fighting the insurgents and many families left
behind by them and liberal Democrats are so bitter against President Bush and
this war.  For them the War on Terror is
not worth it. I think otherwise.  Tell that to the 6 million Jews that
died in the Nazi death camps of Europe.  Sometimes, it's not enough to
watch and let atrocities have their demented grip on evil and ethnic
cleansing.  Saddam and his mass graves were not ignored by the Bush
Administration.  The 60th anniversary of the Holocaust was just
commemorated last week in Auschwitz, Poland.  It happened because the
United States for a while became a silent observer until the sneak attack of
Pearl Harbor by Japan.  Thousands of Americans died in WWII to liberate
Europe and the Philippines and a grateful nation forever honor their courage to
fight that great war.  Probably, many hated FDR and Truman too.  Time
heals all wounds, big and small, and many Americans have not
    forgotten.

my emaciated body because I'm cold to the bone I'd picked the unfashionable
parka of our favorite VP Cheney than the high-fashion suits of those European
leaders. My dear friends and relatives all over the United States: Stop
reading and don't buy THE WASHINGTON POST.  It's an over-rated newspaper

    ...Turn....Turn....Turn....After
waking up, rolling and turning out of my queen-size  bed early this
morning, I saw an inch of fresh snow covering all of the good inherited earth as
I looked out of my bedroom window.  Mother Nature is right on track in
fulfilling her unbroken promise of turning winter into spring.  The north
face of the earth is turning to the ever bright, ever glowing sun, and
families, friends and neighbors are turning to each other for help and
support.  Why, even our beloved, good-looking and chosen President
Bush started today on his week-long journey to old Europe to turn from the big
chill of these past three years to a renewal and coming together with old
adversaries.  Yes, I woke up today with a sharper sense of the Lent (short
for Lengthen)  season.  For Roman Catholics, daytime lengthens from
Ash Wednesday until Holy Thursday afternoon.

    Prayer,
    Fasting and Alms
Giving....I must confess, I can't do all of these three of
Christian and Islamic rules.  I never did.  I can only do two (prayer
and alms giving) out of three. ( It's our secret you and I).  Former
Presidents Bush 41 and Clinton are touring the Tsunami areas of Indonesia
and Thailand to see to it that much needed relief goes to the right
disaster victims.  A relative asked me why is the United States giving
donations to these Muslim countries?  They'll just turn around and use the
money given to them to destroy America.  But...I said we have to give
because it's the American spirit of giving to most of these good people and
pray that the few evildoers don't get whatever it is.  Writer
David McCasland wrote:  "Twelve hours after the terrorist attacks on the
World Trade Center in New York, a television news reporter stood near Ground
Zero with a sheaf of papers in her hand.  She had picked them up from the
street, which was littered with debris from the falling twin towers.  One
sheet was part of a corporate financial report, another was a business proposal,
and a third was a retirement plan.  In light of the thousand lives lost,
those papers seemed so much less important than they were just hours
before.  Calamity alters our perspective.  When lives are on the line,
we realize that people, not possessions, are what matter most.  And if we
take steps to realign our priorities and to treat people well, the lesson will
not have been wasted."  Great tragedies put people first.

    Leaving Home
    With American Express....
As one of the world travelers in the past, I
had the same experience with another bank that issued my Visa credit
card.   I called and raised the same question then and after more than
2 years somebody did too.  I got this in the mail a month ago from
LIPUMA CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT ADMINISTRATOR:  "If
you used an American Express card for charges in foreign currencies between
March 28, 1997 and October 15, 2004, you may be entitled to a refund in

the Settlement in LiPuma v. American Express,
et al., a class action lawsuit on behalf of all former or

charge in U.S. dollars, during the time period between March 28, 1997 and

What a beautiful Sunday it was yesterday here in the
Midwest!  Spring is coming!  Spring begins on the day the center of
the sun is directly over the equator, its rays striking the brown northern
lands.  The bright sunshine and green grass begin to push aside the ice and
snow of winter.  Spring is the time when life begins for all creatures big
and small - when April rose only grows in the early Spring; when poems
and popular verses will be recited with feelings; when songs like
    'Springtime in the Rockies',
    'Younger than Springtime'  and Stravinsky's
Classical Thunder 'The Rite of Spring' will
be played.  Pretty soon I'll be coming out of my hibernation and March
Madness will springing and roaring.  The Spring cycle of birth and renewal
    will end about June 21.

What Are You Doing This Spring?....
I'm doing something unique and different.  I'm sharing with dear
relatives and friends my 40-DAY JOURNEY INTO THE LIGHT. My mysterious journey
started on Fat Tuesday and will be ending Easter Sunday - the most glorious and
joyful of all the Holy Days in the Christian calendar for it's the divine
Resurrection of the Christ.  (The A. L. T. favorite actor-director Mel
Gibson's film blockbuster THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST
will be back March 11, Friday, in movie theatres around
the country). I've been getting positive feedbacks with the web page
Heart of the Story - about legends, fables,
parables and inspirational stories of good people from distant time and
places we've never been, Jesus and HIS saints and other living things.  I'm
not at all religious....far from it.  I leave religion and beliefs to
the monks and mystics.  Holy Trinity!  I'm enjoying this spiritual
stuff as much as you do!

I'm picky finicky watcher...a TV snob.  I cut down some months ago
my TV viewing from 14 hours to 10 hours.  I was a drop-in bank customer
last week and picked up the Wall Street Journal to read while waiting.
Down at the page says "NETWORK NEWS IN TROUBLE".  Nonsense! Everything is
    market-driven and it's location...location...location.  Everyone gets their
fair share of popularity and every viewer of all ages has their own

  42. March....is named in honor of Mars (Martius), the Roman god of war in the
ancient Roman calendar.  Tomorrow, March 15, is the Ides of
March - the day the Roman Emperor Julius Caesar was assassinated.
Having revised and rearranged the Roman calendar making March the third month
instead of the first, he delayed his death by two and a half months.  For
Julius, March is always a marching kind of day.  Always conquering.
Against the command of Roman leaders, he marched and crossed the Rubicon
River (Fiumicino River) in central Italy in 49 B.C.  Today, when one says
"Crossing Rubicon" it means "The Point of no Return".

There are no U.S. national holidays in March but the people of the
great State of Texas, home of the beloved American President George W. Bush and
First Lady Laura, celebrates March 2 as the anniversary of its declaration of
independence from Mexico in 1836.  General Santa Anna of Mexico captured
the fort of Alamo on March 6, 1836.  Texans, especially San Antonians
    always "Remember The Alamo!"

The day of March 11 was a very painful
reminder to the people of Spain because of the Madrid bombing - their 9/11
    American tragedy.

    Dearest Compassionate Relatives and
    Friends:

When I came to America and decided to become an
American citizen, my family gave me a review book for my citizenship exam.
One of the questions was, "Name the three branches of the U.S.
government."  The answer: Legislative, Executive and Judicial.  My
understanding is Congress as the legislative branch make and pass the bill, the
President signs the bill into law and the judges implement the law.  The
Members of Congress and President Bush have every right to intervene to help a
needy citizen like in the case of Terri Schiavo.  There is no abuse of
power there.  There is no violation of the husband's right
there. (Some may disagree). There is no shame there.  I heard
fellow Thomasian Vicky was very disappointed last Friday when the feeding tube
of Terri was removed.  Earlier that day, as an act of a concerned
citizen, she faxed a handwritten letter begging not to remove her feeding
    tube.

I must confess I never followed the story of Terri
Schiavo.  I think she was featured some time ago in the popular TV
newsmagazine 60 MINUTES, my favorite.  This I know- in 1993, her husband
Michael received a $1.1 million settlement to be used for her healthcare- the
exact detail of the lawsuit I have to check and do a MSN Search.  This made
her The Million Dollar Baby.  In 1998, he filed a lawsuit that her feeding
tube be removed and since then had been fighting Terri's parents and family
for her to die.  Like in the trial of Jesus, her case was handed over and
over to different judges in the Florida Courts - nineteen so far.  Her
husband Michael is now living with another woman and has 2 children with
her.  Excuse me for being naïve, impressionable and simple-minded but I'm
curious to know why just not divorce Terri and move on and stop fighting her
parents who are willing to take care of her?  Divorce has been granted for
lesser reason.  Well, is it the money?  Probably if not surely, the
money is all gone by now!

Christians have entered the door to Passion Week.
I have not talked to Thomasian Vicky but there is no doubt she'd be thankful and
hopeful for what two-third Members of Congress and President Bush did in the
unique and special case of Terri.  In our everyday dealing we almost always
make an exemption to rules - be they our personal or people in government (be
honest now).  Please do not believe in misleading negative polls being
propagated by the liberal godless media.  We are on the side of
life.  Politics aside, President Bush is a man of compassion and an angel
of mercy in giving a glimmer of hope to the family of Terri.  Really and
truly, our beloved President Bush is one AMAZING PRESIDENT!

I once think when I was young that I'm going to live
forever.  Barring any unforeseen accident and according to my genetic
make-up, Alzheimer will set in at age 91.  I'd be a LIVING DEAD with no
mind of my own.  Since I don't have any idea of when, how and what to
eat, feeding tube will be inserted in my body just like what they did to
Terri.  My dear relatives, please don't remove my feeding tube as long as
my heart is beating.  My No

  46.           Thomasian Vicky is quite right that "We are a Government of the People..."  She said Governor Jeb Bush is politically the "President of Florida" and has the moral power to help his constituent Terri Schiavo whose parents in her behalf had been denied justice 19 times and counting.  Only the governor can stop a condemned man of dying in the electric chair.  Only the governor can intervene and put the feeding tube back to nourish Terri's body.  Do what's morally correct not what's politically correct.               Give love and compassion a chance.   CC

A heartfelt greeting of very happy Easter Season to all

Urbi et Orbi (To the City and To the World) to the
faithful gathered in St. Peter's Square and one billion Roman Catholics all over

green new dress, a reminder of my baptismal garment and new beginning.  I
felt pretty good as I walked to the limo and joined my friends
Thomasian Vicky and Cora and drove for almost an hour to Our Lady of Mt.
Carmel Shrine in Darien, Illinois.  Well, imagine my surprise! I realized
that opposite the church was once the home estate of Bebs, B*U*S*T* Group

Woo...it took me almost 15 years to have my

After the sorrow, sweetness.  The Holy
Spirit has come down and bathed Pope Benedict XVI with glory.  God bless
him! I like his orthodox and traditional conservative views.  He's not
alone and my fellow Thomasian Vicky shares them, too.  She said,
"There is no place for women priests in the Roman Catholic church and priests
should not be allowed to marry."  Amen to that.  It will create more
confusion - sexing it up.  Life is so complex already and to
add to your church job your family (husband, wife, children) life is asking
    for more confusion.  Woo!

There's room for every religion under
heaven.  I must confess I'm not too religious like the Franciscans brother
moon and sister sun.  But my confidence in my Catholic faith never wavered
and will be forever strong.  It's solid as a rock that it's founded
from.  Its concern and love for me as one of the "chosen few" and the
"faithful one" is unconditional.  It's the only church that does not tell
me (I just hate being told what I don't like to hear) how much money to give
unlike other church where you have to give $200 a week!  No
way!  Question....why is it that everything always comes down
to money?   Moreover, I enjoy being forgiven for my sins
every Sunday when I go to Mass.  The Catholic Church should not be worried
about low attendance and finances.  It has survived for more than 2000
years and shall overcome the scandal of sex abuse propagated by few sick
priests.  Moreover, the faithful are so busy working for a living and
giving comfort to their family.  Meister Eckhart said, "If the only
prayer you say in your whole life is 'Thank you,' that would
    suffice."

It's very important to shop around.  I must say #4 did an excellent job and
    I have a new walkway.

    Next....call people to fix my
    chimney.

Sometimes I just wonder who to
believe.  I never trusted the liberal mainstream media.  They all have
the same agenda - America is evil and its enemies are good.  Take the case
of Dan Rather of CBS's 60 Minutes II and Newsweek - journalism at its
    worst!

Early this month, PBS featured an
old/new documentary of the Holocaust to commemorate the 60th anniversary of
the liberation of Europe.  I've seen it before but I've watched it
again.  Somehow I couldn't help being drawn to it.  You have to have a
strong stomach to see the captured SS prisoners and German women dragging the
dead bodies of Jews and non-Aryans to the mass grave pit.  Whether or not 6
or 6 million Jews died that is not the question.   I question myself
again why there was no early intervention by world leaders.  Why was the
megalomaniac Adolph Hitler allowed to rise to power and commit such crime
against unspeakable inhumanity and ignored?  This....I'm absolutely
sure.  If the beloved Republican President George W. Bush was in the White
House 60 years ago, he'd done something about it like what he did to the cruel
dictator Saddam Hussein and his 2 sons; as Commander-in-Chief, he'd never
ever tell 5-star Gen. Douglas MacArthur to bypass the Philippines and forget his
promise of "I Shall Return" to save and liberate the Filipinos.  That's why
as a Foreign Born Observer (F B O), I was baffled why 51 percent of Americans
surveyed said the war in Iraq is a mistake but glad Saddam Hussein was
deposed.  The two are inter-related.  Either you're glad or
sad.  Let me say that these people are sadly lacking in accurate
information and need a lesson in WWII histo

  50. THE
THOMASIANS....The 3rd USTPMTBBAA REUNION DINNER-DANCE in Las Vegas was
but a memory.  The whole thing was a huge success thanks to the
unified job done by the officers and members but most of all by the
Executive Director Professor Joe Gallardo and Mrs. Purificacion
Santos-Gallardo.  If not for their continuing presence and organization
    USTPMTBBAA would be nothing.

     I have to make
an apology though.  I was assigned by Professor Joe to do the the roll call
of UST alumni from 1937 until 1995 at the dinner program.  During the
roll call I skipped calling the 1962 (Sorry Zeny Hilbert & Senen Quintos),
1985? and/or 1986? graduates (2 present).  Call it my dyslexic
moment.  Still, for the second time in a row, I was given a beautiful
plaque (I think better-looking or equal than the first plaque) and
certificate award for excellence in creative design of the USTPMTBBAA web site by the esteemed Professor Joe.
Thank you kindly and hope to reciprocate in the future.

    I have e-mailed the
highlight photos of the reunion to Veronica, Executive Producer of Chicago
Philippines Report TV for future viewing during their Sunday program.  Mila
Sollosa, Midwest VP, has strong connection with Filipino newspaper publishers in
Chicago and she's working with them to publish photos of the event just like in
the 2nd reunion last year in Santa Clara, California.

    ABOUT  A. L. T......At
    the reunion I was asked what's A .L. T. ?  I always start with "we're
potpourri of everyday tech and people from different countries: India, Pakistan,
Bangladesh, Colombia, Mexico, Lithuania, Ukraine, Canada, Philippines and The
United States."  We're self-funding and absolutely do not beg money from
anyone including the government.  The contributions from the founding
officers and members were more than enough to sustain A. L. T.  We owe no
one and no one owes us.  We are also a social group discussing whatever is
the lead news of the day.  The founder and president, me, is a Foreign Born
Political Observer (FBPO) and a silent critic of the liberal Democrats
and mainstream media.  I am a proud Republican.

Every year, I get a letter from PBS asking
for donation.  I never give because they have the most annoying Bill Moyers
in their program.  One time and one time only many years ago I saw his
show.  It takes one show like Moyers to diminish in my mind all and the
    otherwise excellent shows of PBS.

  51. KATRINA!
KATRINA!....Sen. Durbin (D-IL) called for the head of FEMA Director Michael
Brown to be chopped off.  He must be crazy!  (I did not vote
for him).  This is so unfair.  If there are heads to roll or to
quit right now it should be the Mayor of New Orleans and Governor of
Louisiana.  For more than a week now, there's not even a slightest word of
criticism from the liberal mainstream media for these incompetent
pair.  They were not working as a team.  But we know the
truth.  We know they are the guilty ones and will always remember
their failures. They tried to fool us but well-informed people like me
know that initiatives start at state level and then up to federal level.  I
always thought that FEMA goes to the disaster area a 'little' after to
help in the 'management'.  It's my hope in the interest of fairness and
justice that our beloved President Bush will not sack the directors of FEMA
and Homeland Security for on the contrary they have done an awesome job
    thereafter.

    A CURRENT AFFAIR....I've been a regular
watcher of this FOX TV show since the beginning from many years ago.  It's
been entertaining but this is the second day I was a little bit annoyed.
The sarcastic woman there with handsome host Tim Green, I forgot her name, she's
been calling FEMA for the show. She just gets an
automatic answering machine. Now we know damn well when you call
government offices you just get an automatic response.  You know, I just
    hate overacting.

THE CUT WITH TOMMY HILFIGER....I rarely
watch reality show but I enjoyed The Cut (CBS) so much.  If I've
mentioned it here that means I've seen it.  Last night was the
finale and it was fun to know in the end who's the deserving winner chosen
by Tommy Hilfiger.  My way of thinking exactly!  And how about that
most admired haute couture designer Karl Lagerfeld - he's so nice and so kind to
all the future designers who were 'out of style' temporarily.

DUMMY TO YUMMY....I finally got the recipe
for the tasty and perfect beef steak, Pinoy style, thanks to
ALT-VP Vicky A.  All this time the secret ingredient to get that particular
    taste was just garlic.

Well, that's all for now.  Wow! I just
received my very nice presidential 2006 Calendar: Celebrating The Bush
Agenda (A Year with President George
    W.
Bush) and the cute RNC elephant pin.

  53. Touch this!  An attack on Supreme Court Justice nominee Harriet Miers is an attack on Pres. Bush.  He believes in her, she's an important White House adviser to him and above all found to be a loyal friend.  Who are the people disapproving of her?  Not at all the general conservative Republicans like us but very few opinionated dogs like Rush Limbaugh, Bill Kristol, Tony Blankley and of course the Democrats.  She should be given the opportunity to prove herself at the Senate hearing.  Pres. Bush should stick to his nomination and follow his heart.

  56. DEAR PRESIDENT BUSH:

PLEASE! PLEASE! IGNORE THE MEDIA.  I BEG YOU!  WHO CARES WHAT THEY SAY?! THEY ARE SO OUT OF TOUCH.  YOU ARE DOING A GOOD JOB.  YOU WERE RE-ELECTED BY US, THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.  YOU GOT NOTHING TO LOSE.  YOU ARE NOT RUNNING FOR RE-ELECTION.  SO...CONTINUE WHAT YOU'RE DOING.  WE, THE COMMON REPUBLICAN PEOPLE ARE BEHIND YOU 100 PERCENT.

WHO SAYS CONSERVATIVES ARE UNHAPPY WITH THE MIERS NOMINATION?  THIS IS A LIE BEING PROPAGATED BY THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA TAKING ADVANTAGE WHAT FEW CONSERVATIVES OUT THERE WHO ARE AGAINST MIERS AND DOES NOT REFLECT THE OPINION OF THE MAJORITY OF CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICANS.

MR. PRESIDENT, WE ASSURE YOU, WE LIKE WHAT YOU DID WITH THE WAR ON TERROR, THE SCHIAVO CASE, FISCAL SPENDING, MEDICARE, IMMIGRATION, SOCIAL SECURITY, HOMELAND SECURITY AND HURRICANE DISASTERS.

KEEP ON GOING WITH YOUR PLANS.

  58. The mainstream media and the dems are nothing but sore losers.  They lost in 2000 and they lost in 2004.  Yes!  People are not fooled.  No one's to blame for Katrina for it was an act of God and other things that could not be helped.  Did you know they're laying off people in major newspapers?  Part of the reason is people don't believe what they write with their poison pens against Bush.  You should delete that dumb Brian Williams in your web page.  His stooge David Gregory is nothing but a lousy reporter.

  59. My Fellow Sensitive
    Republicans:

          Consider your
request done.  As a matter of fact I've been mulling it over for quite some
time.  I have always welcomed criticism and I think of myself as very open
minded.  But this is too much! A criticism of our beloved President Bush is
a criticism against us - his very devoted and forever
loyal followers.  Either you're against US or with US, he once
said.  Why, even my closest friends are on tip-toe when it comes to saying
unfair and unjust things against President Bush in front of my face.  Let
me tell you one thing and remember this:  once he's out of office, you'll
never hear from me again.  Why? Because it was mission accomplished.
He's been elected and reelected!  Also, although you have not told me, I'll
be deleting a part of my web page on Dr. Dean Edell, an ignorant critic of
President Bush and his administration.  Let me tell you another thing if
you don't already know - the President is surrounded by the best advisors in the
medical field  Whatever he decides, it's fine with
    me.

  60. A few days ago, I saw
the first white icing of snow on top of my detached garage and the early frost
painting the fields.  The beautiful summer flowers all wilted or
gone.  A Korean friend of mine said it's quite different in his
homeland where the grass turn to brown by fall.  Most of the autumn leaves
have all fallen from the old oak trees.  Yesterday, my Mexican
landscaper Jesus (pronounced He-sus) and his sons, cleared my
yard, mowed the grass and blown all the leaves to the street curve.
In the process, Jesus broke the glass on my side door with his blower.  I'm
still musing if he would have told me if I was not at home?

DANCING IN THE DARK....The Republicans in
Congress are really sharp.  I must say I'm so proud of them.  They
know when  to stick it in.  Okay, okay!  I like to 'beat around
the boss.'  I'm talking about Bruce Springsteen not getting whatever stupid
award the New Jersey Dems wanted to honor him.  You know, when you Dems are
in power, you give it to him then!  For me, he's just a lousy rock 'n' roll
    singer with 3 hit songs.

MEDAL OF FREEDOM....Two weeks ago, our
handsome and beloved President George W. Bush awarded to American civilians
(members of the military also get it) the Medal of
    Freedom
    - Mohammed Ali, Andy Griffith (my bro always remind me
he saw him in person in Los Angeles), Carole Burnett, Merv Griffin and a few
others I could not recall.  Here's my future wish list of nominees for
    Medal of Freedom :

    1.  Bill Gates - a great humanitarian
($6 billion and more to medicine and charity).
    2.  Karl Rove - for the making of
    President Bush.
    3.  Condoleezza Rice - the
globetrotting State Secretary for peace and freedom.
    4.  Rudy Giuliani - for freedom in time
    of terror.
    5.  Rush Limbaugh - for freedom of
    speech - Excellence in Broadcasting.
    6.  Mel Gibson - for freedom in film
making - The Passion of the Christ.
    7.  Arnold Schwarzenegger - for rising
above in America as an immigrant.
    8.  Wayne Newton - he's the new Baby
    Bob Hope.
    9.  Jessica Simpson & Nick Lachey -
for entertaining and supporting the troops in extreme danger.
    10.  Lance Armstrong - for excellence
    in sport.
    11.  Angelina Jolie - UN goodwill
    ambassador.
    12.  A member of the armed
    forces.

Are you gonna hate it when the Dems someday give the Medal of Freedom to their big fat idiot Michael Moore?  He must be happy General Motors is in the red.

Correction - the correct spelling is MUHAMMAD ALI.

I was listening to Rush Limbaugh today - Vanity Fair's spies girl Valerie Plame has quit the CIA to take care of her 5-yr. old twins.  A long time coming.

  62. Patmos
Revealed!....Favorite Group Member Susan told me she saw Patmos
in the History Channel.  Scenic Patmos is famous to Christians all over the
world and it's where the St. John the Divine monastery is located.  St.
John and his "Revelation" is the last book of the New Testament in the
Holy Bible.  The World Travelers and yours truly were just in Patmos
and according to our tour guide, it's a favorite place for father and son Bushes
to visit.  The History Channel had featured recently "The Crusaders: The Cross and the Crescent" and "Da Vinci ~ Decoded."

    Radio Free Chicago.....I don't exactly
know where I begin or stop listening to radio but let me say I start at
midnight.  The show Coast to Coast AM with George
    Noory
, one of my favorites only because it's weird and wacky.  There
was a time when he was wondering why all the microbiologists have mysterious
deaths or news of such nature.  Anyway, friends and co-workers know I'm a
microbiologist myself.  I find it kind of funny.  Next is
Larry "Won't Back Down" Elder, Wall Street
    Journal in the Morning, delightful
Don Wade & Roma Show , and the
great doctor of democracy Rush Limbaugh.  www.rushlimbaugh.com  On Saturday Morning, I Wake
    up with Jake.
He sort of think like me - what he said about digital
camera.  Sometimes it's clear and sometimes it's blurred.  I noticed
that too with 5 & 7 pixes.  And this is informative to me - when the
battery is gone in IPod, you have to buy a new IPod or might as well.  Kind
of expensive don't you think?  Sundays, I wait for breaking news by Matt
Drudge.  He only comes once a week.  Only in his show will you hear
Celine Dion getting hysterical for the unlucky folks of New Orleans.  I'm
sorry but it was too much!  When I'm multi-tasking, I listen to www.wlsam.com in Chicago.
