Dennis Watkins Inside a Red Balloon

MAGICAL DINNER
The second coldest day in Chicago -Tuesday January 22, 2013

A magical dinner with magician Dennis Watkins to entertain the guests.

I have always been fascinated with magic since my very young days in Manila where roaming carnival would go to our place for our town  fiesta celebration, build the ferris wheel - scary at the time for me and until now to ride. But it's a real nice circus.  I'd watch and wonder how the magician would levitate the beautiful lady's body to the tune of "My Serenade."  Then when I was at the Las Vegas show of Siegfried & Roy many years ago, with mass hypnosis of the audience the beautiful sexy lady inside the cage would turn into a big beautiful white tiger.  Just amazing and very impressive.  The magic at America's Got Talent NBC TV show is just so cool and awesome to the point of being scared, just breathtaking.
Surprise, surprise! I met at the dinner my fellow traveling Goldtrotter Elvie and former lab co-worker Rikki.

Out of Nigeria

NIGERIA IS ANOTHER RWANDA:
With a religious twist of Muslims against Christian Catholics.  Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa, is divided between the predominantly poor Muslim North and predominantly rich Christian south.  Boko Haram is a jihadist militant organization - an Islamist movement compared to Al-Qaeda and Al-Shabab.  It's against modernization and democracy and it seeks to impose sharia law in Nigeria.  The photo below was tagged the "Nigerian Holocaust" - 500 burnt alive corpse (and counting) of Christians in Nigeria.
Father Juan Carlos Mortas, a Spanish priest, published the photo on behalf of the Missionari Clarettiani, via de Sacro Cuore di Maria, Rome, Italy.
Again, the Obama Administration just like the Clinton Administration (Rwanda) and the International Human Rights Organization are ignoring what's happening out of Africa.

PUTIN'S CROSS

VLADIMIR PUTIN (NICKNAME "VOLODYA") CALLS IT A REVELATION

I visited St. Petersburg (Leningrad), Russia in 2002, a year after opening her door to foreign tourists and to celebrate the anniversary founding of the city by Peter the Great.  I've seen some of the Orthodox churches (Sts. Peter & Paul Church, Church of Spilt Blood among the famous ones) built before the days of Czar Nicholas II, then closed during the Russian Revolution and then revived thereafter the fall of USSR, no longer a "godless communist" country, and became the Russian Republic.  From 1922 to 1991 the Soviet Union is a Communist Nation.  In 1952 his mother, an Orthodox Christian, defied the authorities and secretly had the new baby baptized, or accepted into the Christian church.  His father was an atheist.
Putin's Cross is made of simple aluminum.  His mother gave it to him when he first visited Israel for the first time as an official invitation by the Minister of Foreign Affair.  She gave the cross to him to have a blessing at the Tomb of the Lord.  The second time he traveled as a tourist with his family.

In 1996, after six years of building and constructing his dacha (extra house) near St. Petersburg was finally finished.  The 2-level home was spacious - the second floor had a balcony overlooking the green forest and the first floor had a banya, a traditional Russian sauna.  He invited a family friend to show his new home and sauna.  Putin took off the cross before entering the sauna.  They then went to swim in nearby river but upon their return saw the dacha on fire.  The dacha burned to the ground.  Through the ashes one of the workers muddling at the remnants of the fire found the cross intact.  The cause of the fire was bad wirings that he did in the sauna.  Since then he wore the cross, "I did so and now it's with me always."

I think President George W. Bush probably knew about this incident in the life of President Vladimir Putin that he said after their first meeting in June 2001, "I looked the man in the eye.  I found him to be very straight forward and trustworthy and we had a very good dialogue.  I was able to get a sense of his soul.  He's a man deeply committed to his country and the best interests of his country and I appreciate very much the frank dialogue and that's the beginning of a very constructive relationship."
Putin's belief is achieving the ultimate goal - "comfort in our own heart."

Windows Live Hotmail

I ALMOST HAD AN OMG! MOMENT THE OTHER DAY.
I've been using my Hotmail since the beginning of time.  It has everything: my favorite bing clip arts and emotics (helpful to people with ADD), instant YouTube video screen (you don't have to go click to the link and have to go to the actual YouTube website), categorized e-mail address and you name it.  It is the best of the best out there, second to none.  And then, my dear e-mail buddies, I don't know what I've clicked my Hotmail became Outlook!  Now, I know Microsoft has Live Messenger, which is redundant with Hotmail in my opinion and Outlook from the very beginning also.  Although the "new" Outlook was introduced by Microsoft in August (?) 2012, Microsoft is pushing it more this January.  I was in Outlook for a few hours and I did not like it.  I could not not access my bulked recipients and all my friends e-mail addresses are gone!  In Outlook there was so much space in between, in big letters, while in Hotmail they are all there condensed in one screen.  That's why I don't have those ridiculous Apple iPad, either too small or too big, and Kindle (give me a book I can hold and read both pages).  Let me have my laptop and desktop computer anytime.  However, others who would like to evolve may like to "upgrade" to Outlook.   Not moi! So, thank heavens, I was able to go back to my Hotmail.  Someone at MSN is looking after us Hotmail lovers.

Update February 27, 2013
Outlook User

Outlook.com  is so inconvenient and annoying.  I've been using it for 5 days now.  In the e-mail address, you have to scroll slowly and it taking so long because of the picture icon.  I really don't care about the picture because it's already shown in Contact.  In Hotmail everything was so fast and no hungup for me.  How terrible for me, the Goddess of Convenience.  What a bitch!

Commuter Train in Paris

A REAL JOURNEY FIT FOR A KING:
Paris commuter train has carriages transformed to resemble rooms from the Palace of Versailles - the center of political power in France from 1682 - King Louis XIV moved from Paris until the royal family was forced to return in October 1789 during the French Revolution.  The main rapid transit system in Paris, the RER, has undergone a dramatic refurbishment - the train carries the colours of the Palace of Versailles.  The RER C line runs between the Palace, 20 kilometers southwest of Paris and the center of the capital.  The royal deal was made between Palace officials and rail operator SNCF.
