Firing Squad in Indonesia

WHAT A SAD AND HEARTBREAKING STORY    It was just announced Friday, April 24, to the family of Mary Jane F. Veloso and the Philippine government that she will be executed on Tuesday, April 28 at Nusakambangan, a high security prison in Indonesia.  All last-minute appeals for clemency to President Joko Widodo have  been exhausted by many international organizations and Philippine President Noynoy Aquino III and Vice President Jejomar Binay.  I, self,  I'm very glad to know everybody is trying their best to help and save her from execution as she was an innocent victim, a mule of drug trafficking.  Mary Jane is very much deserving of forgiveness and mercy.

The Veloso Family

They had a prison inmates celebration three days ago, April 21,  where Mary Jane was a third-place winner of fashion contest.  Wow!  She looked beautiful in her Indonesian native dress, totally different from her gloomy and stressed photos.  The more of her deserving a second chance in life, in my opinion.

WHAT A DICHOTOMY?!   The Philippines is the largest Catholic nation in Asia and Indonesia is the largest Muslim nation in the world.  The last known Muslim in history to show mercies to Christians was Saladin.  Hopefully, there will be a last-minute change of heart for mercy by Widodo.

If I need any kind of help, this prayer for divine intervention is never known to fail for me.  As a Catholic Christian, I'm using this simple prayer for Mary Jane Veloso.

THE PHILIPPINES IS ONE OF THE WORLD'S TOP LABOR-EXPORTING NATIONS WITH ABOUT 10 MILLION SKILLED AND UNSKILLED WORKERS SCATTERED ABROAD, MOSTLY IN THE MIDDLE EAST.

Remittances from Filipino migrant workers constitute a significant source of the country's foreign exchange, sending home over $22 billion per year.

I said to myself, self, the Philippines have embassies and consulates all over the globe where these Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) find jobs - welcome them upon their arrival, have a list and at least be aware of their well-being by being in touch how they are doing occasionally or once in a while.  Don't just go to diplomatic parties and social events.  Help your kababayans.  The Philippine government owes these OFWs for helping in a progressive economy by sending money.   As domestic workers in foreign land they are subjected to abuses and even rape or attempted sexual assault as what happened to Mary Jane Veloso when she was a housemaid in Dubai.

All OFW recruiting agencies in the Philippines should be closely monitored by the government - that they are legal and not into scams.

There should be a strict ban of Filipinos seeking jobs in Indonesia, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia where there are no human rights.

Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle recently said,  "I have an appeal to make to our fellow Filipinos who are planning to work abroad:  Do not just accept parcels or bags from people, especially (from) those you do not know."  He urged OFWs to be wary and do not easily trust people they hardly know for their protection.

But what do you do as in the case of Mary Jane Veloso when she was stranded in Malaysia, when her Malaysian employer was a no show to meet her at the airport?  There she was, an uneducated Filipino, 25-year old and very confused.  Huh, can one do better?

MARY JANE FIESTA VELOSO    SHE'S ONE OF TEN DRUG TRAFFICKERS THAT IS ALMOST ONE STEP CLOSER TO BE EXECUTED BY FIRING SQUAD  IN INDONESIA.  She just lost her court appeal.  Many Filipinos believed the 30-year-old mother of two sons who came from a poor province in the Philippines  to be innocent and just ignorant of the scamming ways of her own kababayan.  A recruiter gave her a job as a maid in Malaysia.  She was not met at the airport by her employer.  There she got caught up in the web of international drug traffickers and told her to bring with her a "package" (turned out containing drugs, 2.6 kilos of heroin) to Indonesia and was caught by Indonesian police in 2010.  She's been languishing in prison since then.  The United Nations and Amnesty International appealed her cause to Indonesian President Joko Widodo but to no avail.  Even though Indonesia is not Mexico and/or America where drug lords and drug traffickers and users get away from being prosecuted with the help of high-powered lawyers, still executing her is a cruel and unjust punishment.

UPDATE:  April 23, 2015    Mary Jane Veloso was transferred to an island in Indonesia where death penalty prisoners are usually executed.

  9. I ASK MYSELF, CAN I DO BETTER? NO! I CONSIDER MYSELF EDUCATED AND SMART AND A CITY GIRL, NOT PROVINCIAL. HOWEVER, YOU ARE A YOUNG GIRL IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY, DON'T KNOW THE SIGNS AND LANGUAGE, ALONE AND AFRAID. THEN, YOU MEET SWEET TALKING CON MEN, PROMISING YOU SOME KIND OF JOB PLACEMENT IN NEARBY PLACE (INDONESIA) AND MONETARY REWARD. I BET YOU, YOU'LL BE A SUCKER, TOO!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. THE EXECUTIONS OF 8 CONVICTED DRUG TRAFFICKERS WENT ON AT THE DESIGNATED TIME. WITH VELOSO BEING ALIVE, SHE WOULD BE ABLE TO RELATE FROM THE VERY BEGINNING TO END, STARTING WITH THE NAME OF HER RECRUITER CRISTINA "TINTIN" SERGIO WHO'S NOW BEING HELD BY THE PHILIPPINE POLICE, THE CONNECTIONS OF THIS RECRUITER IN MALAYSIA AND INDONESIA. I'M CURIOUS TO KNOW IF VELOSO HAD THE SAME LUGGAGE FROM THE PHILIPPINES, TO MALAYSIA AND TO INDONESIA.
