HERE LIES LOVE, A MUSICAL INSPIRED BY THE LIFE AND LOVE STORY OF THE IMELDIFIC ONE -- FORMER PHILIPPINE FIRST LADY IMELDA MARCOS AND HER FERDIE IS BACK AT THE NEWLY REFURBISHED DORFMAN THEATRE IN LONDON. OPENING NIGHT IS OCTOBER 13, 2014 AND RUNNING THROUGH JANUARY 8, 2015.
Legendary alternative musician David Byrne who wrote the musical together with Norman Cook (aka Fatboy Slim) first staged the UK-based musical in July 2013. In a report by Baz Bamigboye of the DailyMail.co.uk, Here Lies Love director Alex Timbers traveled around the world to find his cast: two members of the ensemble came from the Philippines, one from Hong Kong , two from Holland and the remainder from the UK. Auditions in Manila were held early this month which was overseen by both. Starring in the upcoming musical are singer-actor Mark Bautista as former president Ferdinand Marcos and Natalie Mendoza as Imelda. Upon hearing the good news, Mark was immediately congratulated by fellow theater stalwarts Lea Salonga and Joanna Ampil who both played the title role of "Miss Saigon" in separate West End productions.

FLY PAL PHILIPPINE AIR LINES (PAL) IS PLANNING TO FLY TO CHICAGO, NEW YORK AND HINTING FLYING UP TO FLORIDA THIS OCTOBER WITH ITS NEW FUEL-EFFICIENT AND MODERN AIRPLANES. This is good news for Midwesterners who have to fly to San Francisco, California to fly PAL. PAL used to fly to New York, and for a short time to Chicago, but stopped operating because of the Asian financial crisis in 1997. San Miguel Corp (SMC) is in talk for the sale of its 49% stake in the Philippine flag carrier back to the Lucio Tan Group. The report further said if the Lucio Tan Group failed to buy out SMC, then the conglomerate will purchase the former's 51% stake. An appropriate disclosure shall be made in the event a definite agreement is concluded by the parties.

A sad case on the plight of Overseas Filipino Workers seeking a better life around the world. How many untold stories we'll never know.
In Tripoli, a Filipino nurse was abducted, taken somewhere and gang-raped by a group of Libyan youth in front of her residence. She was released by her captors two hours later. A Philippine Embassy consular team took her to hospital for medical check-up. This is the second incident in a span of one month - the first victim was a construction worker who was kidnapped and beheaded by militants for being non-Muslim. Filipino workers in Libya, estimated at 13,000, are being asked by the Philippine government to leave immediately and will shoulder the repatriation costs. Filipinos were told to value life over jobs. The government already assured Filipino workers returning from Libya of new jobs or other means of livelihood in the Philippines or other countries. Only about 800 have returned home.
