One Man's Opinion Sgt Maj J.D. Pendry

THIS ONE MAN'S OPINION IS TELLING IT LIKE IT IS.  Although "it won't do any good" this e-mail has been going round and round among like-minded friends.

I was
way too young then and having too much fun to be involved in world's
affair.  If there is to be a lesson learned  in the mistakes of the
past is to be a firm believer and a strong fighter.  As an
FBO (Foreign Born
Observer), allow me my dear relatives and friends all over the
world to give my own personal 2-cents views on:

The
Vietnam War

The Americans lost the war because of
hippies on LSD (Lysergic Acid) and violent student protestors, Hanoi
Jane Fonda, former presidential candidate John Kerry and the mainstream
media.  The defeatist attitude of these people who are against the war and
the disunity that divided the nation gave so much encouragement and support
to Communist leaders.  The American supporters of the war then
were timid and passive and did not 'fight' with full measure of attack and
counterattack.

The War
in Iraq, Afghanistan
and the War
on Terror

The U.S. troops have not entered Baghdad yet
and already the Democrats and anti-war activists were already asking when are
the troops getting out.  They were asking the Commander-in-Chief Bush what
are the plans, the exit strategy?  The American people want to know! Are
these people stupid or what?  Why would President Bush broadcast the
'plan' ? You know what, I'm truly a unique character for I have the
foresight and I'm always thinking ahead.  I've been studying past
and present American history, its psyche, little  by little and right
now and let me tell you - it's always the timing.  Timing is
everything.  The U.S. will only leave Iraq or whatever place when it's time
to go.  I did not understand at first about the WMD and how it became the
main focus by the liberal Democrats and mainstream media.  I myself was
really surprised how it became such a big issue! Being an FBO, I think different
of course from the Americans.  For there are already sufficient reasons
in going to war - removing Saddam Hussein and his mass killing of
Iraqis, him giving incentive for suicide bombers in Palestine, gassing of the
Kurds, attempted assassination of a president, shooting at jet fighters in the
no-fly zone and defying UN resolutions.  Also there's the cause of
spreading freedom and democracy.  The other day there was a concert in
the ditch near the Crawford ranch of President Bush.  I call it the
reincarnation of Joan Baez (a popular 60's folk singer and anti-war
activist).  But let me assure you, t
oday is a different matter.  The war supporters are more into
it, more active and ready to fight to win the war of wars.  I heard on the
radio www.wlsam.com that war supporters are marching
to Crawford to have a face to face talk, word for word against the eternally
grieving Gold Star Mother Cindy and her cabals.  I like that - war
supporters should be ready to rumble and take a stand for what they believe,
i.e. freedom and democracy, and that winning is the only thing.  My
brother is worrying about the billions in financial cost every month.  Let
me tell you brother, that these billions are mostly being spent on the
maintenance of  military camps, for food and protection of our dear brave
soldiers.  I saw the whole picture and thing in a documentary.
For people to say Iraq is like Vietnam is nonsense!  Soldiers are dying due
to desperate suicide bombers and IEDs but sorry, we are at war since
9/11.  There was a democratic election and a constitution was just
drafted.  A beginning that is almost halfway to democracy and
reality.  It’s very important to be optimistic, stay inside the Iraq line
and be out of the box and fight with all your might.  The only fear I have
is...it's always the timing.  It's hard to control time.

Time and tide wait for no one.

-Geoffrey Chaucer

The
Environment

I don't care much on the hype about global
warming and the environment.  Mother Nature is the most destructive kind
(earthquakes, tsunamis, fires, floods, volcanic eruption and other natural
calamities) and it's her way of doing the check and balancing.  It's up to
mankind to adjust and evolve - you know, surviving the food chain.  The
earth is part of the planetary systems and it will remain so as is.

The
Republicans

I have always voted Republican and will
always do.  One time, I asked my favorite friend as we were looking at the
photos/books of Rush Limbaugh www.rushlimbaugh.com and Karl Rove why
conservatives seemed to be contented and happy while Democrats are always mad
and angry.  Why Republican women are more good-looking than
Democrats?  I cannot tell you what was said.  All I can say is the
Republicans of today have learned how to fight their critics.  The words
'character' and 'civility' went out of the White House West Wing window during
the Clinton Administration.  That is why I agree with my favorite friend
that Sen. John McCain of Arizona will be the next president in 2008.  He
had the character in not leaving his war buddies and staying with them in
the Vietnam prison camp for 5 years.  He had the civility in being a
worthy fellow party opponent of President Bush.  But most of all,
there is nothing more virtuous than being loyal to his party when he
gladly accepted the offer by the Bush Administration to speak at the Republican
National Convention in New York City.  McCain is following in the footsteps
of Nixon and Reagan.  Running for president is sweeter the second time
around.  Although not much for Richard Nixon, yes?

  1. BUSTED! by Mother
Nature again!  What happened in New Orleans and surrounding areas is like
the great biblical deluge if nothing more.  Then what happened after is a
work in progress.  The most surprising thing for me is thousands of
people survived the terrible disaster.  Unlike in the tsunamis, people were
washed away into the ocean.  That's the greatest tragedy.  Just a few
people survived.  What astounded me, from what I heard on news
reports, the countries that were devastated by the tsunamis refused help
and said "we can take care of our own people."  No man is an island and the
US should accept all the help it can get from other countries especially oil and
    gas.

What happened in the miserable City
of New Orleans and the blue bayous of the State of Louisiana be
an important lesson to the City of Chicago where I live and any other
cities and states.  From my rickety armchair, I think there was lack of
leadership, organization and communication by the heads and local agencies of
that city and states.  After all we are independent states, are we
not?  To depend too much with the Federal Government is an exercise in
ignorance.  What I found missing after the storm was the rallying support
by these local leaders and temporary plans to help the mostly
poor Black people (67% in Louisiana) that came out of the
woodwork and who luckily survived the great flood.  No, I'm not asking and
looking for Moses.  What I'm looking for is a semblance of  being
    there.

Kind words can give a lift to a heavy
    heart.

    That these evacuees be absorbed
and transported to temporary military camps.  There are so many
military bases and camps all over the United States.  I'm sure there
is a local city disaster and survival plan and drill in case of
flooding.  What to do with the looters?  What to eat if stranded and
hungry?  I love can goods especially Ligo sardines, SPAM and
Vienna sausage.  People go fasting for 30 to 40 days, you know.
I bring my own bottled water, drink it drop by drop if necessary until help
arrive.  Am I insensitive?  The dead people - probably they will
be in the daily obituary anyway.  What about the babies and children?
Sometimes I wonder how the refugee mothers in Sudan and Rwanda manage to take
care of their poor babes for months if not years? What about crimes being
committed? Again, it's the daily dose being committed by criminals in any other
states.  In Chicago, about 19 types of crime are happening each day.
Most of all, I wanted to see on instant television and mainstream media
these local city and state leaders to be right there in the midst of things and
giving at least words of comfort and saying "help is on the way" from the
federal government.  Now the federal government is being lambasted and
toasted by the media (Ted Koppel and Charles Gibson of ABC) and even the
New Orleans Mayor himself for dragging its feet and not d
