Heart Plaque

A NARROWED CORONARY ARTERY (ATHEROSCLEROSIS) DUE TO A BLOOD CLOT IS THE USUAL CAUSE OF A HEART ATTACK.  In his autopsy when my father died at age 82 the cause of death was atherosclerosis.  The clogged artery prevents oxygenated blood from nourishing the heart.  This can lead to pain, the death of heart cells, scar tissue and fatal arrythmias.

Heart plaque that you don't want.

Causes of increase likelihood of heart attack

  • Genetics   Early heart attacks run in your family.
  • Cholesterol and triglycerides   Lead to deposit build-up in the arteries.
  • Smoking     Damages the inside walls of arteries allowing cholesterol to collect in them.
  • High blood pressure (HBP)    Also known as hypertension, the pressure makes the heart work harder.  The added effort makes the heart thicken and become stiffer.
  • Sedentary lifestyle   Lack of exercise contributes to high blood cholesterol levels.  Any exercise can benefit your health.
  • Obesity    Excess weight forces the heart to work harder.
  • Diabetes   It strikes more often in middle age.  About three-quarters of people with diabetes die heart disease.
  • Stress   This can elevate your blood pressure.  It may also lead you to gain weight from overeating and make you smoke to relieve tension.
  • Alcohol   Too much drinking can raise blood pressure and triglyceride levels.  A drink is equivalent to 12 ounces of beer, four ounces of wine or 1.5 ounces of an 80-proof liquor.  The risk of heart disease in people who drink moderately is lower in nondrinkers.
  • Diet   Too much saturated fats and cholesterol in your diet can narrow arteries in your heart.
  • Age   More than 8 out of 10 people who die of coronary heart disease are 65 or older.
  • Gender    Men are at greater risk than women.
  • Race   African-Americans, Mexican-Americans, and Native Americans suffer from HBP and a higher risk of heart disease than Caucasians.

I just drink when I'm thirsty, Da-Tu.  I'm counting 5 glasses of water only.  What happened to drinking 8 glasses a day?  Right, some health researchers said you don't have to drink 8 glasses a day because the food you eat have water in them.

From A Cardiac Specialist!

Drinking water at certain time maximizes it's effectiveness on the body:

2 glasses of water after waking up - helps activate internal organs

1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal - helps digestion

1 glass of water before taking a bath - helps lower blood pressure

1 glass of water before going to bed - avoids stroke or heart attack
