CANTICLE OF THE SUN
The Heavens are telling the glory of God
and all creation is shouting for joy.
Come dance in the forest, come,
play in the field, and sing, sing
to the glory of the Lord.
Sing, sing to the glory of the Lord.
Praise for the sun, the bringer of day,
he carries the light of the Lord in his rays;
the moon and the stars who light up the way
unto your throne.
Praise for the wind that blows through the trees,
the seas' mighty storms, the gentlest breeze;
they blow where they will,
they blow where they please
to please the Lord.

Today, April 22nd, in the Year of the Lord, the people of earth are observing Earth Day. Reverence for all life is mostly the earthly theme of the Easter season and observe worldwide on the March Equinox.
Earth Day was first recognized 40 years ago today. In 1979, Pope John Paul II named St. Francis of Assisi, divine author of the "Canticle of the Sun," as Patron of Ecology. The Pope called the saint, "an example of genuine and deep respect for the integrity of creation." In retrospect, the rich saint (born 1181/1182 in Italy), poor saint, gave away his "worldly" goods to be with his "worldly" friends, creatures big and small, nicknaming them: "Mother Earth," "Brother Sun" and "Sister Moon."
The first Earth Day was held in San Francisco, California, which is named after St. Francis. The special day was supported by the Franciscan Brothers and the Catholic parishes of the city by the bay.
He's the Patron Saint of San Pablo City, Philippines and Meycauayan, Bulacan. I'm not exactly sure why St. Paul is not the patron of San Pablo City, and chose St. Francis?
