Machu Picchu (Old Peak)

MY OWN INCA EXPEDITION :))  The Incas built a network of roads and highways - one of the most famous is the one that leads to Machu Picchu from Sacred Valley, just north of Ollantaytambo, and follows the course of Urubamba River, crossing mountain ranges on its 50 km length and reaching  heights of 4,200 meters.  Although the Inca Trail was used by the local peasants for many years, it was Hiram Bingham who, during his many expeditions after the discovery of Machu Picchu and in his search of Vilcabamba.  Brought into existence in 1915 up to 1940, access to Machu Picchu was restricted to archaelogical excavation and research.  In 1941, Paul Fejos and his Norwegian expedition discovered the ruins of Winay Wayna ("forever young" in Quechua).
