Ravinia 2013 Jackson Browne

JACKSON BROWNE HAS BEEN OUT OF ASYLUM AND I SAW HIM AT RAVINIA WEDNESDAY, JUNE 26.  The singer-songwriter began his career in the mid-'60s, briefly performing with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.  In 1971, David Geffen of Asylum Records signed him with the immediate release of his debut album.  His song "Doctor My Eyes" was an immediate Top-10 hit.  He co-wrote the song "Take It Easy" by The Eagles.  Among his hit songs are The Pretender, Stay/The Load-Out, and my favorite Running On Empty.  When I was painting my deck in the early 80s, I'd bring out my cassette tape and recorder and listened to the song over and over again.  Each time, my can of paint "running on empty."
He was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2007.  A little bit of an activist, he had been the recipient of Duke University's LEAF award, the John Steinbeck Award, and both the Chapin-World Hunger Year and NARM Harry Chapin Humanitarian awards.

Jackson Browne made his first appearance in Ravinia in 1977.  And returns for the fifth season.

Sara Watkins, singer-songwriter and fiddler, opened for Jackson Browne and her Ravinia debut.  She won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album.

Ravinia made a recent improvement with a new grand entrance and pedestrian underpass, making it easy for members and non-members to carry their chairs, tables, coolers and whatever they are pulling.

For festival "lawnatics"-- Music of ABBA as performed by the Swedish band ARRIVAL FROM SWEDEN. Fabulous and perfect sound.

  1. I just noticed there are just 2 screens now, not 3 (2009).
