Filipino Spies in Qatar

FILIPINO SPIES?   STRANGE AS IT MAY SEEM, THREE FILIPINOS WORKING AS OVERSEAS WORKERS  IN QATAR WERE CONVICTED OF ESPIONAGE IN MAY 2010.  They were charged of leaking information about weaponry, aircrafts, maintenance and servicing records between 2009 and 2010 to intelligence officials in the Philippines.  The alleged Filipino spies who also belonged to a "born-again-church" as pastors had given forced confessions after 10 days of tortures.  The Filipino man who received the death penalty worked as a supervisor in a government-run petroleum company, while the other two who received life imprisonment worked as technicians in Qatar Air Force.  Philippine officials denied that it was spying.  

On May 31, 2015, the Qatar Court of Appeals reduced the death penalty conviction of Ronaldo Lopez Ulep  to 25 years in prison, and the two who were sentenced to life imprisonment was reduced to 15 years in prison.  His excellency Wilfredo Santos, Philippine Ambassador to Qatar, welcomed the good news.
