Palmer House Chicago

PALMER HOUSE - A HILTON HOTEL  The historic and iconic hotel is where visiting med techs stay in Windy City Chicago.  Wealthy Potter Palmer built the original hotel as a gift to his bride Bertha Honore.  It opened on September 26, 1871 but unfortunately burned down 13 days later in the Great Chicago Fire that started when a cow kicked Mrs. O'Leary's lamp on October 9, 1871.  It was rebuilt in 1875.  In 1920, the Palmer Estate decided to erect a new 25-story hotel.  In December 1945, Conrad Hilton bought the hotel for $20 million.  It's the second-largest hotel after Hyatt Regency Chicago.

You are greeted by a friendly Filipino concierge who was brought from the Philippines.  How's that for equal opportunity hotel employer?

The hotel was renovated from 2007 - 2009

Med Techs stayed from September 20-21, 2009

Med Tech Reunion

Ready to tour Chicago after a good night's rest

WHAT GOES UP, MUST COME DOWN.  WHAT COMES DOWN, MUST GO UP.

The world is still here and will keep on turning.  I don't worry, so don't you worry, for everything is political and media driven.  Mind me and you, after the election everything will be hanky-dory.  So relax and enjoy our favorite things.
There's no denying I love eating.  I just have to thank from the bottom of my heart and gut my two personal chefs - Susan and Sofie for my monthly supply of my favorite yummy dishes.
Susan's food containers:
  • Chicken salad
  • Dinuguan, dry Ilocano style, with jalopeno pepper
  • Cellophane noodles with pieces of chicken and shiitake mushrooms
  • Chicken tinola with sayote and spinach
  • Boiled peanuts (the only peanuts I eat)
  • Watermelon
Sofie's food containers:
  • Grilled pork ribs marinade in mixture of barbecue sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce and plum sauce.  Muy masarap!
  • Dinuguan, wet Tagalog style
  • Pinakbet
  • Baked pork ribs with fats included.
My genetic makeup is so different that Spam, Vienna sausage, eggs (3 eggs a day) and meat with fats are my basic staples since childhood.  I read brain cells come and go, but fat cells live forever!
Again, a million thanks to my personal chefs.  The food you bring give me so much joy!!!
There! Not hungry anymore I can talk of other important stuff.  Susan and I went to Chinatown to treat Sofie for her birthday.  We had a late dim sum at the Phoenix restaurant.
Sofie just came back from New York visiting her son, David, a bright graduate of Carnegie-Mellon University.  She also went to Jersey City to join her college med tech co-interns for a weekend mini-reunion with Nerie, Ruby, Lily, Hedy, Josie Datu and Myra and husband Lenny who finally arrived after a 5-hour drive from Maryland braving hurricane Hanna.  Evelyn did not make it due to the bad weather.
They've been urging Sofie to organize and hold a Med Tech class reunion in Chicago in 2009.
We in Chicago have discussed the plan.  You have to wait for the plan after my lunch of dinuguan.

  1. OUR MED TECH BATCHMATES FROM THE WEST COAST SOMEHOW COULD NOT GET THINGS TOGETHER FOR A  BIG REUNION OVER THERE IN CALIFORNIA.        I'm guessing they are busy and they live far and wide.  So, Sofie and Manny, the 1996 med tech class reunion organizers are doing the planning again.  Bebs of Arizona already volunteered to help.   Here's the temporary plan:   The date of the 2009 Med Tech reunion will be the 3rd or 4th week of September.   Itinerary:   Friday evening (6:00 pm)...........Casino night (we like Grand Victoria) and dinner.   Saturday morning.....................On your own; check in to a Chicago downtown hotel.  You can go to Navy Pier or Chinatown to eat lunch or window shop at the magnificent mile.   Saturday evening.....................Cruise, dinner, and dancing on the Odyssey or choice of other cruise.   Sunday Brunch........................95th Hancock     Hoy Med Tech Batchmates, we decided on no more hotel dinner and dance and no more Sunday picnic.  We don't want to be bothered when everything is already there there.   Be prepared to bring a lot of moolah if you're coming to the Chicago reunion.  We are high class here in Chicago.  Giggles.  </

WHAT'S NEW WITH THE 2009 UST MED TECH REUNION:

Thanks Bebs for volunteering and agreeing with the Chicago reunion
plan.  I don't have the right email address of Manny, Sofie's
co-organizer.  My message comes back every time I email him.  Please
    call him by phone.

I was making a list of our classmates/batchmates and I'm guessing
there are a lot who will be coming to the reunion.  Steering committee -
transportation will be a little bit of a problem. As you know I don't like
driving and I always have a personal driver driving me around.

Susan suggested renting a school bus? What's the cost of renting?
Sofie suggested joining a casino bus? Is there a casino bus going to our
favorite Grand Victoria? Will there be available tables for 30 to 40 people, all
at once, at their dinner buffet? Where are we all going to
meet? Maybe you like renting big vans? Would you like to split into 2
groups - those living in the north going to Grand Victoria and those living in
the south go to Indiana casinos?
