University of Santo Tomas 400 = 1611 - 2011

UNIVERSITY OF SANTO TOMAS, MANILA, PHILIPPINES

Founded in 1611, the Royal, Pontifical and Catholic University has been providing Christian education and moral values to aspiring Filipino youth, including foreign students, who are hungry for knowledge, not only for many years but for four hundred years. Many of its illustrious alumni who have moved on have shared their chosen profession and contributed back to the school by way of scholarship foundations and monetary support. Others have gone abroad to pursue their dreams and to achieve their life-long goals. Some of these alumni, if not most, are coming back home for the quadricentennial celebration, reconnecting with their classmates and professors "who may still be living", reminiscing with them many wonderful memories and souvenirs of the past.

Plaza MayorSo different now but more than 60 years ago it was a Japanese concentration camp for American prisoners of war.
