Buenos Aires Metropolitan Cathedral

THE BUENOS AIRES METROPOLITAN CATHEDRAL is the Mother Church of the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires and where the newly-elected Roman Catholic Pope Francis (Jorge Mario Cardinal Bergoglio) said many prayers for the poor, sick and the homeless.  What a way to go for the humble servant - from the end of the earth to the Eternal City.  It's God's will.

The 19th - century Neoclassical facade of  Buenos Aires Cathedral overlooking Plaza de Mayo at the corner of Saint Martin St. and Rivadiva St.  Built in the 16th century, it has many 18th century statues and altarpieces.

Very active ladies of the cathedral accepting petitions and favors from God.  The statue looked so alive!

Altarpiece of Christ of Buenos Aires - 1671

On the right side of the church is the Mausoleum of General San Martin guarded by two soldiers.  The three statues represent Argentina, Peru and Chile - countries liberated by the General.
