Maze: Route of Biblical Exodus

Maze: Biblical Route

Route of the Biblical Exodus http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjIwqWTw9aA

After breakfast the following morning, we traveled east towards the wilderness of Sinai Peninsula and the Land of Goshen tracing the Route of Biblical Exodus (Genesis 16-18). We drove via the tunnel underneath the Suez Canal to the west branch of the Red Sea.

Our first stop was Marah by the Red Sea, the desert springs along the shores of the Red Sea, where the children of Israel found the waters bitter. We continued to Elim and visited the desert oasis and the possible sites where the 12 wells and 70 Palm Trees were found during the children of Israel's journey to the Promised Land.

We then traveled along the western Sinai coast to Wadi Feiran (Rephidim), the desert valley where the children of Israel fought against the Amalekites.

Mt. Serbal, the possible site where Moses held his arms up in victory.

We headed inland heading towards the granite mountain of Mt. Sinai and Wadi el Raha. Raha in Arabic means "rest" and according to tradition this is the area where the Israelites camped and the golden calf was forged (Exodus 32). We arrived in the afternoon at our hotel Morgen Land Village near Mt. Sinai and St. Catherine's Monastery.

Wheel - The instrument of torture of St. Catherine

St. Catherine of Alexandria is believed to be born of nobility and converted to Christianity at a young age. She publicly rebuked the Emperor Maxentius for his persecution of Christians in the 4th century. Catherine was later martyred and is frequently depicted with a wheel, one of the instruments of her torture. According to tradition, her body was transported by the angels to Mt. Sinai, where a church and monastery were subsequently established.

Inside the monastery is the real "Burning Bush." The "Burning Bush" is burning only when God is present. Note the fire extinguisher next to the "Burning Bush" which is not burning at the moment.

In the evening, we had an authentic Bedouin dinner in a Bedouin tent and was happily met by Bedouin sheik. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nl9yZBbRSpY
