The school was built in 2008 mainly through donations from St. Joan of Arc Church's in Evanston and supporters in Kansas City. Here are the latest updates from Father Simon Peter, foreign exchange visitor priest:
- Solar panels were attached to the boy's dormitory roof this past year. Two solar panels and batteries cost an estimated $1,500.00. To date, solar panels have been installed on the classroom building, one teacher's quarters, the girls' dorm and now the boys' room.
- When Michael K. of SJA Evanston visited, he bought the school a giant TV screen just in time for the children to watch the World Cup. Also the news and other favorite programs especially Animal Planet.
- The government fully certified the school and granted the necessary License to conduct the Primary Leaving Examination (P.L.E.) from the school.
- Kindergarten continues to provide the biggest challenge with 110+ kids using the Hall as their class.
- The boarding school has grown from 105 to 140. Many of SJA pupils are day scholars, some braving long distance on foot.
- There are 21 scholarships in the whole school every term (three terms in a year).
- On June 6th, St. Joan of Arc Day, a visiting Principal of Cambridge College Kampala, promised the best student at SJA in the PLE final examinations, free scholarship for four years in Cambridge.
- Security - building a fence to protect not only the lives of pupils and staff but also property.
- Construct a kitchen to protect the food, to have a better place where the food is prepared and to ensure safety as kid's line up for meals.
- Construct a kindergarten to accomodate the 110+ kids. The girls' dormitory is almost full.
- Transportation - in case of a medical emergency only God knows what to do!
- Water - At this time there's a bore hole in the school area but not enough water tanks to hold the water that is needed.
But God's goodness and mercy are beyond measure.
