THE FIELD MUSEUM HAS AN EXTENSIVE PHILIPPINE COLLECTION - ABOUT 10,000 ARTIFACTS OF PHILIPPINE ORIGIN. About 4,000 are from the Cordillera region, and the rest from Mindanao and Visayas. The objects were collected between 1907 and 1910, during the U.S. colonial rule. Written in the journal http://www.wilderness.net the unique biological diversity of the Philippines is truly extraordinary, and worth of great national pride. Dr. Lawrence Heaney and Danilo S. Balete of Field Museum study biogeography - the study of the geography of nature. They study native mammals such as mice and bats that live in the Sky Islands, mountain peaks of 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) above sea level and higher elevations.
Heaney showed a 1946 sample of the Giant Luzon Bushy-tailed Cloud Rat, a large, endangered plant-eating mammal endemic and indigenous to the Philippines that lives in the forest canopy at 5,000 feet elevation. They are called Cloud Rats because they live in cloud forest, up at high elevations there's a fog through the forest most days, in the Cordilleras, north of Baguio. Between 2006 and 2011, they found 11 new species of mammals, more than any in the world.

For the life of me I will never understand and will forever be traumatized by the rejection of CHICAGO not getting the OLYMPIC GAMES in 2016! Why Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Salt Lake City and NOT CHICAGO??? What do these cities got that CHICAGO does not? Really and truly, there is a happy medium in the CITY OF CHICAGO and by far more beautiful than many other cities in the world. For the life of me, a simple-minded transplanted Chicagoan, I will never understand why money will be problematical. I was doing the math.... let's say, if the more than 14 million population household of Illinois will give a mandatory donation of $10, that would be $140 million right there; if big companies will donate $25,000 - $50,000 and small businesses will donate $5,000-$10,000, that would be billions of dollars right there. I remember my dear friend over there who has a small business giving $25,000 to the John Kerry political campaign who lost the presidential election any way. Well, duh! If private citizens of CHICAGO can give that big amount of money to politicians why can't many companies and businesses give donations to the worthwhile Olympic Games? I know inflation is always a consideration. But that's the reality of life, nothing stays the same. With volunteerism and good management CHICAGO WORKS! It will keep on giving in the future. I was in China last year and strolled the beautiful Summer Garden of Empress Xi Ci. She was criticized for the money spent in the reconstruction of the garden after the British burned it.. A hundred years later the citizens of the world are enjoying the Beijing attraction. I foresee the young Honorable Mayor Richard M. Daley of the Daley Dynasty will still be the running Mayor of Chicago 9 years from now. I think knowing what you can not do is more important knowing what you can do. - Lucille Ball .
