The Chinese tradition of celebrating Chinese New Year has a big influence in the Philippines.  Filipino Chinese merchants who are mostly store owners have a fun parade hoping the year would bring them good luck in health, wealth and love.

THE YEAR OF THE ROOSTER  Chinese around the globe will celebrate starting February 9, 2005 the ancient Chinese lunar calender. but astrologers use the solar calendar.  According to the solar calendar, the New Year begins on February 4, which is known as the 'Beginning of Spring.'  Either way, moon or sun, it's still WOOD ROOSTER YEAR - There are 5 different types of Rooster year:  wood, fire, earth, metal and water.  The prevailing energy is the wood element for 2005.    The rooster is the first creature to awake in the morning and wakes up others with crowing.  Time to get up and get on with it - if you're a rooster
