Across the Andes

ACROSS THE ANDES TO PERU
Thursday, October 11  We boarded Sky Airlines at Buenos Aires Ezeiza for Lima, Peru with a two hour stopover in Santiago, Chile.  Chile has a modern, earthquake-proof airport built on stilts, probably the most beautiful in South America - Peru (2nd), Argentina (3rd), Brazil (4th).  The items sold at the airport shops are very expensive.  I collect thimbles and saw one that I like but the price was $32.  Hard to believe.  While waiting and sitting, there was an earthquake tremor from 2 - 6 seconds.  Luz said, "What the hell is that?" We were told not to worry - "earthquakes are normal in Chile."  http://youtu.be/jEQlSBxSte4

Waiting for our 10:25 AM flight
Up above the spectacular Andes Mountain
We landed in Chile at 12:30 PM.  I must say we had the best and expert airline pilots with all our flights in South America - soft landing everytime.

Trains chugging along in the vast wilderness

Somewhere, nowhere in the no-man's land of Chile we made a stopover at an airport.
We finally arrived in Lima at 5:45 PM after a 7-hour flight, including stopover.  We were met by Pancho of Condor Travel & Tours.

Luz did not like our very brief, overnight stay at Casa Andina Hotel for some reason.  We were very hungry (the food served by the airline was forgettable) so we asked someone at the hotel to order KFC for us.
