A Day at the Louvre Museum

FROM ''CULTURE BUG' TO 'CULTURE VULTURE:

The Louvre is a dominating structure in central Paris since the 12th century, the building has transformed from its original design as a royal fortress to an impressive and influential institution: the Louvre's 60,000 square meters of permanent exhibition space is filled with over 35,000 works of art.

This is so cool!  The construction workers of the royal fortress were such oh la la 'romantique.'  They drew a heart at the base of the fortress to sign and show how much they loved doing their job. I circled some of the hearts. Do you see them?

I saw in the news while in Paris that "Egypt severs ties with the Louvre."

Venus was her name.  Still sexy after all these years.

Winged Victory -- I looked, she's not wearing Nike shoes.

Emperor Napoleon crowning himself.  Josephine kneeling and the Pope (I have to Bing the Pope's name) glumly looking on.
11.18.09 Ba-da-BING: The pope's name is Pope Pius VII

Mona Lisa (Lady Giocanda) with the mystic smile.

The 'Wedding at Cana' painting with Venice as the background.   Our local guide Ms. Francois told us that was Mary Magdalene sitting next to Jesus.  Phillip from Houston was asking where's Mary.  Not true.  That was Mother Mary because she has halo on her head.  Fr. Mel told us so.  The painting reminded me of my girlfriend Susan - she wanted to get married again in Cana.  Will Jesus multiply the loaves of bread and wine again? LOL!

This is just an adorable and lovely painting of Mary, with Baby Jesus and Baby John the Baptist.

A painter copying one of da Vinci's paintings, very good copy at that.

How can I forget the exact title of this painting?  Something about Liberty - and that Lady Liberty was patterned after it.
11.18.09  Ba-da-BING: The title of the painting is "Liberty Leading the People" celebrating the July revolution by Eugene Delacroix, 1830

Typical Michaelangelo - (I forgot the title - something about death).
11.18.09 Ba-da-BING: The Slave by Michaelangelo (1513-1515)  For Pope Julius II (1513)
Dying Slave - Young and handsome
Rebellious Slave - Coarser figure whose whole body seems to engage in a violent struggle

The Louvre's Pyramid turned 20 years old.
Filipino-American pilgrims evolving to 'culture vultures' at Louvre - behind is the inverted pyramid.
