THE PAINTED VEIL
This beautiful and emotional film is based on the 1925 novel by the great author Somerset Maugham. Filmed on location in China, it's the first Western film to be shot there in decades. The 1999 screen adaptation by Ron Nyswaner, the film is just awesome with the cities of Shanghai, Beijing and the timeless river valleys and shadowy hills in the northern autonomous region of Huang Yao, Guangzi Zhuang providing the perfect backdrop.
Bacteriologist Dr. Walter Fane (2-time Oscar nominated handsome actor Edward Norton in the lead role and producer) accepts a job in an isolated village ravaged by cholera epidemic. He forces his wife Kitty Fane (played by Australian actress and film co-producer Naomi Watts) to accompany him when he found out about her adulterous affair.
