<.FILIPINO RESISTANCE FIGHTERS CURRENCY
Japan seized the Philippines in World War II. But before General Douglas MacArthur, the Liberator of the Philippines, left the islands for Australia, he split his command among officers who stayed behind, hoping to grow resistance groups. Filipino resistance fighters produced "Guerrilla Notes" to finance their cause. The crude emergency money was often produced using wooden blocks, vegetable dye and scrap paper because there were no printing presses and very little paper or ink. The money was eagerly accepted because it symbolized the resistance. Anyone caught by the Japanese with Guerrilla Notes faced torture or death. General MacArthur promised he would return to the Philippines in March 1942 and by October 1944, thanks to the efforts of the resistance fighters, he made good on his pledge.

Thank you for your e-mail. Your opinion is very important and everything that you wrote should be considered. I don't really know exactly what kind of military base it will be. In fact, some extremist Americans are telling the U.S. Government to close all military bases all over the world to save money and be done with wasteful expenses. Of course, such crazy idea would never come to fruition because of these reasons: America, as the number 1 superpower, has a responsibility to protect the rest of the free world as well its own from terrorists and evildoers; if they close the military bases and bring home the soldiers, what would the current administration do to provide jobs for them when they return to private life? The U.S. economy is stagnant and in recession (yes, it is!). The current job unemployment is 9.1%. There are no jobs.
Fortunately, the people of the Philippines are surviving because of close family ties -- they have relatives working for a living in other countries and they send their remittances to help and support them. I think the Philippines is far luckier than the people of Africa (Somalia, Uganda, Libya, Egypt) and other third-world countries. I was in Egypt last year and found out the Philippines is better looking, economically, socially and environmentally. Historically, it's good they have the Pyramids, Sphinx and King Tut.
Anyway, things are hard to tell the way things are going in many parts of the world. Being an individualistic and independent person I educate myself with what's good for me and just live within my means in order to survive. Goodbye cruel world and let me be.

Dear Ate Lib
