The writer of the article below, daughter of Max Soliven (was he a newspaper columnist?), compared the late President Ferdinand Marcos to Hitler.  Out on a limb, having not followed the internal politics during the Marcos Regime, why her father and Benigno Aquino were put into prison by Marcos, I have so little inkling.  Is she talking about the same Heil Hitler, the poster child of all evil and terror, a racist super-megalomaniac who exterminated 6 million Jews, Catholics, Asians and gays? But to compare Marcos to Hitler?  Such comparison is beyond extreme, beyond stupidity, and beyond belief!

HEADLINE:  Obama's broken promise disappointed many immigrants

Be disappointed no more! As early as Thursday or Friday this week, Obama would have unbroken his promise.  Obama announced  plans earlier this year to act on his own to slow deportations but has postponed any changes until after November's election.  Since Obama took office, his administration has removed more than 2.1 million illegal immigrants.  What are his plans? Americans will know pretty soon.

Obama's Presidential Power

DREAM ACT (acronym for Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors) - The term Dreamer is in reference to a group of immigrants that could have benefited from the unsuccessful U.S. Senate legislative proposal of 2001.  On June 15, 2012, however, Obama signed a memo calling for deferred action for certain undocumented young people who came to the U.S. as children and have pursued education or military service here.  Applications under the program called Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) began on August 15, 2012.

Power to the Presidency

Executive action is a phrase that makes many people tremble.  When Obama announced this past June that he would use executive power on immigration reform before the end of summer ( later delayed after the November election) shouts by the minority oppositions in Congress and Republican pundits of "unconstitutional", "abuse of power", and even "impeachment" were heard.  Obama's hands were tied - the inaction of Congress to pass the comprehensive immigration reform and Obama's failure to fulfill his promise after six years in office led him to no other choice but  exercise his executive will.  Tomorrow is coming - America never had a President promise to use executive power to  fix the immigration problem.  Congress and the American  people be damned!  Obama has made a promise and only he alone can fulfill it by the stroke of a pen.  What is Congress going to do? Nada, zilch!  Because no matter what, the Republicans will always be blamed with anything Obama does.   Obama's been blaming Bush for 14 years.   Remember this: Obama is/was a constitutional lawyer and professor and he knows how to circumvent any laws.  He's got veto power.   When you hear someone say no one is above the law, Obama is above and around the law.  Forget about impeachment and government shutdown, you people, it's just a waste of time and money.

Obama is the great hope of illegal immigrants.

ARCHBISHOP BLASE CUPICH   IS THE NEW DIOCESE TOP SHEPHERD OF ROMAN CATHOLIC FAITHFUL OF CHICAGO.  He took over Archbishop Francis George who's been taking care of the flock since 1997 and was on and off  battling cancer.  His installation took place at Holy Name Cathedral, the main resident church of Chicago's archbishops.  It was a very windy but sunny day.

Archbishop Cupich was born on March 19, 1949, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Blase and Mary (Mayhan) Cupich.  He is the grandson of Croatian immigrants and has five sisters and three brothers.

After he earned a B.A. in philosophy from the College of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1971, he attended the seminary at the North American College and Gregorian University in Rome where he received the Baccalaureate in Sacred Theology in 1974 and his M.A. in theology in 1975.  He received his Licentiate of Sacred Theology (STL) in 1979 from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.  He also holds a Doctor of Sacred Theology in Sacramental Theology from The Catholic University of America, awarded in 1987.

Ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Omaha on August 16, 1975, Archbishop Cupich served as an associate pastor, instructor as Paul VI High School in Omaha, Director of the Office for Divine Worship, Chair for the Commission on Youth, instructor for the Continuing Education of Priests Program and Diaconate at Creighton University, and parish pastor.  He also was the Secretary of the Apostolic Nunciature in Washington, D.C., and Rector/President at the Pontifical College Josephinum, Columbus, Ohio.

Archbishop Cupich was ordained and installed as Bishop of Rapid City, South Dakota, on September 21, 1998.  He was officially installed as Bishop of Spokane on September 3, 2010.

Archbishop Cupich served on numerous United State Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) committees, including those focusing on communications, liturgy, young adults, Native Americans, vocations, the catechism, and Catholic education.  He was a member of the Committee on Protection of Children and Young People from 2005 to 2006 and chair from 2008 to 2011.  He currently chairs the USCCB Subcommittee on Aid to the Church in Central and Eastern Europe.

Archbishop Cupich has written pastoral letters on faith, the Eucharist, and discipleship, as well as numerous articles on the mission of the Church, community, priesthood, and moral issues.

Archbishop Francis George in the late 1990's was invited to bless the new obstetric wing of St. Elizabeth Hospital in the near north side of Chicago.  He was also born there and had polio in his early childhood.  Although he walked with a slight limp he walked a bit faster as I later found out as I was "chasing" him around the hospital ground after the Mass to take more photos.   I did not know he noticed me but finally he stopped and said, "Okay, you can take my picture now."  That's the reason why he's my favorite cardinal.  God bless him and I'll pray for his good health and not to suffer much.

Would You Have Approved? Immigration Amnesty

EXECUTIVE POWER ON IMMIGRATION AMNESTY 

Last week, Obama announced that through his executive power he is going to give amnesty to 5 million illegal aliens.  As far as I know, presidents in recent past - Carter, Reagan, Clinton - have granted immigration amnesty.  I don't quite recall if Bush 41 and Bush 43 have granted amnesty.  Obama was elected and re-elected because of his promise to the Hispanic voters.  However, I was mystified why he did not work on immigration laws  with fellow Democrats who were in the majority in Congress early in his administration.  I see where was the problem  or problems - Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi.  Now, after 6 years he was blaming the Republicans.

Think about this: If Obama will act on granting this amnesty, the 5 million Hispanics  will have to apply for public aids and other types of social services, more burdens to American taxpayers .  He does not think of the black folks who don't have a job.  About 14% job unemployment in certain states.  I am not talking of millionaires blacks like Oprah, rich celebrities and basketball and other sports players but helping the poor common blacks.  

Obama must have forgotten them.

The June 12 deadline of switching from analog to digital TV is just days ahead.  But what about my 2 small-screen TVs (3 inches & 7 inches) that I carry around when I'm in my garage and at work?  Is there a converter for small ones?  I have 4 big TVs and I only got 2 discounted Insignia converters from the government. 
I guess I have to throw them out, huh!
