Attached is a slightly revised version of the program announcement.  Please note that, if you are planning on staying at the hotel, the deadline to register at the group rate is March 31.  Details may be found in the brochure.

Also, if possible, please try to get your registrations to me by April 4.  I will be gone for a week so that would really help.  I will be back before the meeting, so please be assured that late registrations will still be accepted.  If I do not receive your checks before April 4 that is no problem; however, a faxed registration form would be great.  Thanks much!

I'm satisfied with AMTRAK and Chicago's CTA trains.  I must confess, in more than 44 years I took about 8 roundtrip rides only.  When I was thinking of taking the train from New Orleans to Chicago, I was in awe of AMTRAK, so humongous and its glistening chrome was a sight to behold.  Chicago CTA trains need new paint and washing, that's all.

CHICAGO -- Celebrate the tradition of the Filipino piyesta at Navy Pier's Neighborhoods of the World performance series at "Piyesta Pinoy" on Sunday, April 1, noon, at Crystal Gardens! Admission is free.

While already part of the Chicago Children's Museum's yearly Passport to the World series, this is the first time the Philippines is featured at Navy Pier's Neighborhoods of the World series honoring Chicago's ethnic neighborhoods and cultural diversity. The famous Crystal Gardens are located on the same floor as the Chicago Children's Museum. "Piyesta Pinoy" is a landmark opportunity to learn about Philippine culture and traditions, and the meet the community currently living in Chicago.

"Piyesta" is the Filipino translation for celebration, fiesta and festival. In the Philippines, every town and village throws a yearly a festival to honor a patron saint, to celebrate a bountiful harvest or to just have fun. “Piyesta Pinoy” adds to the Chicago Filipino Community’s beloved traditions, usually celebrated in the summer as a reminder of the homeland climate, but acknowledging our adopted country by celebrating in the spring.

"We have several outdoor events in the summer such as the Philippine Independence picnic in June and the Adobofest in September. This will be the first time that we will gather and celebrate in the spring time for a huge Philippine festival and what could be a better place to hold a fiesta in April than indoors in a garden setting at Navy Pier's Crystal Gardens," said festival organizer Ruben Salazar of the Philippine American Cultural Foundation.

Performances include the Chicago premiere of Universal Records Philippines recording artist Jay R, with additional performances by the Chicago Angklung & Rondalla Ensemble, hip hop dance group Cryptic Movement Crew, De Paul Asian Cultural Exchange, Hataw Pinoy, Hinsdale FilAm SDA Rondalla, hip hop duo IL Empire, Jeremy Calimag, Lane Tech Kapamilya Habang Buhay, Loyola Kapwa Cultural, PACF Performing Arts, folk fusion band SamaSama Project, St. Isidore Simbang Gabi Dance Crew, Sulyap Pilipino Cultural Dance Company, and Transfiguration Dance Troupe. Winners of University of Illinois at Chicago's Battle of the Bamboo contest are also scheduled to perform! Philippine Consul General Leo Herrera-Lim will give an address. It will be a lively afternoon of music, dance, colorful costumes, authentic cuisine, and local folk arts.

R&B singer Jay R is flying in from the Philippines to sing in a segment called "Party Pilipinas in Chicago." The Philippines' Platinum Prince of Soul's career includes singing, songwriting, record-producing, acting and even modelling. Jay R has come a long way since his debut album, "Gameface" under Universal Records in 2003. Currently, he hosts GMA's variety show "Party Pilipinas", and the host of the Philippine adaptation of dating game show, "Take Me Out". To know more about Jay-R, visit his site at www.jayrsmusic.com and www.gmanetwork.com/international.

Philippine Fest Chicago is presented by Navy Pier in partnership with the Consulate General of the Philippines and the Philippine American Cultural Foundation. "We would like to invite you, your families and friends to celebrate and be part of a fiesta, the Philippine traditional way we call “Piyesta Pinoy” right here in Chicago at Crystal Gardens in Navy Pier," said Salazar.

Horseshoe Casino

IF YOU DON'T PLAY, YOU DON'T WIN!Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana, is a 20-minute drive from Chicago. Whenever old folks play the slot machines and Blackjack depend whenever they get their Social Security moolah. The Dragon Room of the casino was always full of Chinese players. The Chinese are big gamblers and they know how to win. The proof is Macao, the gambling capital of Asia.

Self, I win and I lose in the penny slot machines. Play a little, win a little, lose a little. Lucky players Elizabeth won 2,400 pennies and Rose won 700 pennies. So, I go for the buffet. I heard from my friend they don't serve lobsters anymore because some buffet eaters sneak them away. I don't know how they do that?! What do they use to wrap them lobsters? Thank my tummy they still have mussels, fried shrimps and crawfish.

Peanuts

I LOVE PEANUTS!

Although I've been working for peanuts all my life, I still love peanuts. I've been binging on peanuts (I like them boiled) since I got my gift of big bag of peanut from Georgia this month.

Peanut is not a nut, it's a pea! They don't grow above the ground but grow on the ends of their flower stalks, which have dug into loose soil. Buds at the ends of the stalks enlarge to form peanut pods. Peanut plants bear many small, yellow, pealike flowers near the base. The plant blossoms continuously for about 2 to 3 months. It's an annual plant. The flower stalk or peg is its most distinctive feature and it may be 15 inches long.
Jars of peanut seeds found in ancient graves in Peru have been proof of their American origin, not African. Peanuts were one of the first gifts the Indians gave to the first white settlers in Virginia. Suffolk, VA, is called the Peanut Capital of the World. The 10 leading peanut States - Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, South Carolina, New Mexico and Mississippi.
The peanut is very nutritious - one pound of roasted nuts or peanut butter contains more calories, protein, minerals, and vitamins than a pound of beefsteak.
Some peanut products: salad oil and dressings, packing oil for fish, illuminating oil, massage oil, deep-fat cooking, margarine, soap, cosmetics (face powder, shampoo, shaving cream), medicines, explosives (used in nitroglycerine), plastic filler, insulation and sweeping compounds. The vines, hulls, and peanut skins make livestock feed. Peanuts are food for humans except to those who are allergic and can be deadly to them when eaten.

Immaculate Contraception

SANDRA FLUKE, OUR LADY OF IMMACULATE CONTRACEPTION -The liberal Democrats and women's lib with the blessings of Queen Pelosi and Messiah Obama have found Our Lady of Immaculate Contraception in Ms. Sandra Fluke, a 30-yr old law student at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., one of Catholic universities in the United States run by Jesuit fathers. She overtly testified in Congress more than two weeks ago, a substitute and a set up it turned out by Madam Nancy, that she and her fellow sisterhood need free birth control pills for their sexcapades to be included in the healthcare plan of her Catholic school in which she's under a scholarship program. In her testimonial, she and her crusading cohorts have to pay in the amount of $1,000 (or is it $3,000?) for contraceptive pills to feed their genitals! OMG! How could that be? I though we are all individual in our own right and what we do with our own body is nothing but our own business. No wonder Rush Limbaugh, the Attila the Hun of "Conservatism" and the mega-mouth of EIB (Excellence in Broadcasting) http://www.rushlimbaugh.com and http://www.wlsam.com 11:00 am - 2:00 pm CST, made his opinion very loud and clear to his Dittohead listeners (20 million) calling her a "slut" and a "prostitute" - if may I say a common expression said occasionally by common folks. I even hear on SNL (Saturday Night Live) skit the expression, "You ignorant slut!" Of what I've seen in few of Ms. Fluke's interview by the media, she's very well spoken and has the look of a victim of her vaginal culture and sensitivity. Does she and her crusading sisters need help with that? I pray not! I was kind of disappointed with Rush Limbaugh for apologizing to her. As a Dittohead, one should never apologize if what was said was right at that particular time because it was thought to be the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. The liberal Democrats and Ms. Fluke should thank Rush Limbaugh for calling her slut affectionately, thereby elevating her as poster child and the face of contraceptive martyrdom. Right. Tit for tat. What goes around comes around. I, myself, love to boycott advertisers when I don't like what was said about all my favorites. Right. I don't listen to any Democrat leaning mainstream media and shows. Turn it off! I have been a Limbaugh radio listener since 1989. Because he says what I think myself. I'm not Conservative but I am a pragmatist Republican. I have my own sensible mind and no one can tell me, not even him can tell me what to do. He attacks the Right, the Left and the in-between. He's entitled to it because the Freedom of Speech is a God-given right and should never be extinguished. Maybe I should not go ahead with my AOL subscription. Did I read Rush Limbaugh order a lot from ProFlowers? Well, they just lost a customer from Limbaugh! Hey, always express yourself in any way you can to get to the point!
