FINALLY! MISS PHILIPPINES IS ALWAYS A RUNNER-UP THESE PAST FEW YEARS BUT NEVER AS MISS UNIVERSE. Oh, What a moment! There was confusion when host Steve Harvey called Miss Colombia as Miss Universe 2015. He must be dyslexic like me. It turned out PIA ALONZO WURTZBACK, was the real winner. The Trump. Previous owner of Miss Universe Pageant said both should be co-winners. Is he insane? These ladies all their lives are dreaming of their shining moment in the world's stage. A BEAUTIFUL NIGHT AT THE MISS UNIVERSE PAGEANT All the contestants are favorite beauties. Mary Jean Lastimosa, our very own Miss Philippines 2014 (Binibining Pilipinas) made it to the 15 semi-finalists and Top Ten finalists thanks to the presence of Judge Manny Pacquaio. MJ got eliminated as one of the five finalists.
Now, let me say this before I go on. That new expensive Miss Universe crown is u-g-l-y. I used to watch all Superman films, those starring Christopher Reeves, and it looked like ice columns from the House of Jo-el. And not even Princess Elsa or Anna would wear such a crown in Frozen. Yes, yes, I'm traditional. Caveat: Any new Miss Universe winner in the future should nevertheless accept the crown and put it on her head. It is what it is!
About MJ, 27, hails from Cotabato, in the 12 million Muslim population stronghold of Mindanao. Her father is an Arab who managed a recruitment agency in Manila and her Filipina mother Marites worked with the business. Her parents then moved to Saudi Arabia to promote the business. She and her sister Maricar were left behind in the care of their uncle Sergio. She has three other siblings living in Saudi Arabia. She had a degree in technological engineering at the University of Mindanao.
